If the rain stays away, Pretoria and Johannesburg will enjoy a treat when the 2025 Independent Schools Cricket Festival<\/strong> kicks off on Thursday, 20\u00a0 February.<\/p>\n

St Alban’s College<\/strong> will again host 17 top independent schools from South Africa, and two from Zimbabwe.<\/p>\n

Other venues that will feature besides those of St Alban’s, are those of Cornwall Hill College<\/strong>, The University of Pretoria<\/strong>, St John’s College<\/strong>, and St David’s Marist Inanda<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The University of Pretoria’s fields will be used on Thursday and Friday only, whereafter the remaining fixtures not being played at St Alban’s and Cornwall Hill will take place at St John’s College and St David’s Marist Inanda.<\/p>\n

Over the first three days – Thursday, Friday, and Saturday – the teams will battle it out in the 50-over format, while Sunday’s action will be shorter and sharper, with teams contesting T20 matches.<\/p>\n

As always, St Alban’s will play their fixtures on home soil, at the picturesque TC Mitchell Oval<\/strong>. The hosts kick off their campaign with a tough task, facing St Andrew’s College<\/strong>, from Makhanda. Another noteworthy fixture on the first day takes place on the Baloyi Oval<\/strong>, also at St Alban’s, between Diocesan College<\/strong> (Bishops)<\/strong><\/em> and Hilton College<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Just like St Alban’s, Cornwall Hill College<\/strong> will also enjoy home-ground advantage throughout the four days of cricket. They, too, will have their hands full with tough competition throughout, especially on the first day, when they face St David’s Marist Inanda,<\/strong> and the last day, when they come up against Bloemfontein’s powerhouse, St Andrew’s School<\/strong>, which has produced some outstanding results in 2025, especially in the T20 format<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n

The two international visitors, St John’s College<\/strong> and St George’s College<\/strong>, both from Harare, pose a different threat to the South African sides. St John’s might be familiar to some of the KZN teams after participating in the iHlobo Festival<\/strong> and Clifton T20 Tournament<\/strong><\/a>, but they will, largely, be a bit of an unknown to others.<\/p>\n

St John’s takes on a tough Helpmekaar Kollege <\/strong>before tackling a young Kearsney College <\/strong>side that has pulled off some notable wins over highly regarded opposition. St George’s can look forward to an interesting match-up with St Benedict’s College<\/strong> on the first day. Their schedule will also include Kearsney, whom they meet in a T20 on the last day.<\/p>\n
