After Friday’s action at the Reef Cup Water Polo Tournament<\/strong> just two girls’ teams, Reddam House Bedfordview<\/strong> and Hellenic Academy<\/strong> boast wins from all four of their starts.<\/p>\n

The hosts, St Stithians<\/strong>, remain unbeaten, but they were also held to a 3-3 draw by Beaulieu College<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The prestigious annual tournament runs through until Sunday.<\/p>\n

Reddam House Bedfordview <\/strong>enjoyed a solid opening day, on Thursday. Playing in Pool A, they opened their challenge with a smooth 12-1 victory over the Tournament Invitation Side<\/strong>. In their next outing, they were extended by Zimbabwe’s Falcon College <\/strong>but came away with an 8-6 win.<\/p>\n

On Friday, they followed through with a 12-4 win over Maris Stella<\/strong> and a 10-4 defeat of St Dominic’s<\/strong>. That was St Dom’s only loss in pool play.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Pool B produced some of the most interesting results. The opening day twice produced 3-3 draws, between Pretoria High School for Girls<\/strong> and Rand Park<\/strong>, and Woodridge<\/strong> and Kingsmead<\/strong>. The latter two won their other three games, including against Durban Girls’ College<\/strong>, who might have been expected to top the pool.<\/p>\n

There was some high scoring in Pool C, including a 20-0 win for\u00a0St Peter’s College<\/strong> over Afrikaanse Ho\u00ebr Meisieskool<\/strong> (Affies)<\/strong><\/em>, and a 15-0 win for Hellenic Academy<\/strong> over Parktown High School<\/strong> for Girls<\/strong>. The Zimbabweans also thumped Affies 19-1.<\/p>\n

Although they were pushed harder on Friday, Hellenic recorded successive victories by four goals each, beating St Peter’s 10-6 and Crawford College Lonehill <\/strong>8-4.<\/p>\n

In Pool C, the hosts and the defending champions, St Stithian<\/strong>s, established themselves as the team to beat, but their record wasn’t perfect. After a six-goal win over Reddam House Umhlanga<\/strong>, a 21-2 romp against Steyn City<\/strong>, and a 19-0 whitewash of Reddam House Helderfontein<\/strong>, they shared the spoils with Beaulieu College.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, in the boys’ tournament, Durban High School<\/strong> (DHS)<\/strong>, Afrikaanse Ho\u00ebr Seunskool (Affies)<\/em><\/strong>, Michaelhouse<\/strong>, and St David’s Marist Inanda <\/strong>are the pace-setters after the first two days of competition. All four have won four out of four<\/p>\n

In Pool A, DHS registered their first win by beating Reddam House Bedfordview 13-6. They followed that with a 14-3 defeat of Grey College<\/strong>.\u00a0Their smooth run continued on Friday with a convincing 15-0 blanking of Beaulieu College, but St Alban’s College <\/strong>extended School <\/em><\/strong>before the Durban boys won 5-4.<\/span><\/p>\n

Affies powered their way to an 18-4 win over Parktown Boys’ High <\/strong>in their Pool B opener and they dealt KwaZulu Natal’s Maritzburg College <\/strong>a 14-5 loss. On Friday, Affies beat Falcon College<\/strong> 15-6 and outlasted St Benedict’s College<\/strong> 8-6.<\/p>\n

Michaelhouse<\/strong> came out guns blazing on the first day, easing to a 14-1 win over their provincial rivals, Glenwood High<\/strong>. In their second game, they overpowered Rand Park High<\/strong> School<\/strong> 25-1. On Friday, their dominance continued with a 14-2 success against Steyn City and an 11-6 win over Woodridge.<\/p>\n

In Pool D, the Vides Water Polo Tournament champions, St David’s Marist Inanda<\/strong><\/a>, were seldom extended in racking up four victories. They downed St Peter’s 16-4, Hellenic Academy 10-4, Reddam House Umhlanga 19-2, and Reddam House Helderfontein<\/strong> 17-1 to make a clear statement that they’re the top dogs in the group and a serious title threat.<\/p>\n

The tournament continues on Saturday with St Dominic’s facing Durban Girls’ College, followed by Woodridge against Falcon College.<\/p>\n

St Alban’s and Maritzburg College kick off the boys’ action. The games will run through into the evening.<\/p>\n
