Photo: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/TeamphotoSA\"><strong>TeamPhoto SA<\/strong><\/a>.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The annual <strong>King Edward VII Water Polo Tournament <\/strong>concluded on Sunday with <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/bishops-downs-hilton-to-win-first-ever-kes-water-polo-tournament-title\/\">Bishops beating Hilton College 4-2 on penalties in the final<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>A pulsating showdown went down to the wire with the sides playing to an 8-8 tie in regulation time.<\/p>\n<p>In the shootout, Bishops kept their composure and converted four of their five chances while Hilton misfired twice.<\/p>\n<p>Both teams were superb throughout the tournament and went into the final unbeaten after breezing through the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/five-teams-dominate-opening-day-of-kes-water-polo-tournament\/\">pool stage<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/semifinal-spots-sealed-at-kes-water-polo-tournament\/\">knockout rounds<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Their dominance was reflected in the <strong>Team of the Tournament<\/strong>, which was announced after the presentation of the winner&#8217;s trophy.<\/p>\n<p>Both finalists had three players each in the 14-player squad, with the Player of the Tournament, <strong>Tristan Uys<\/strong>, of Hilton College, headlining the lineup. He was joined by his teammates, <strong>Mitchel Garreau,<\/strong> and goalkeeper, <strong>Lwango Ntantala<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Garreau and Uys were the standout players for Hilton in the final and scored a combined seven goals, while <strong>Thomas Taylor<\/strong> netted the eighth goal. All three goal scorers represented the <strong>KZN u19A<\/strong> team at the <strong>School Water Polo South Africa Inter-Provincial Tournament<\/strong> in East London in December 2024.<\/p>\n<p>The champions, Bishops, were represented by the dangerous <strong>Matt Fenn<\/strong>, <strong>Timothy Young<\/strong>, and shot-stopper <strong>Michael Mafunda<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Fenn ended the tournament as the top goal scorer, with a whopping 24 goals, while Young received the<strong> Defender of the Tournament<\/strong> accolade.<\/p>\n<p>Mafunda, who was named by <strong>SuperSport Schools Plus<\/strong> as one of <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/five-players-to-watch-at-the-kes-water-polo-tournament\/\">five players to watch<\/a>,<\/strong> was rock solid in the last line of defence.<\/p>\n<p>The 2024 winners, <strong>Rondebosch Boys&#8217; High<\/strong>, who finished in fourth place this time around, had <a href=\"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/player-profile-noah-reiback-rondebosch-boys-high\/\"><strong>Noah Reiback<\/strong><\/a> and <strong>Jack Robinson<\/strong> included. Meanwhile, the bronze medal winners, <strong>St Stithians College<\/strong> provided <strong>James Crick<\/strong> and <strong>Declan Wood<\/strong> to the <strong>Team of the Tournament<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>SACS&#8217;<\/strong> dangerman <strong>Jandro Rojo-Roos<\/strong> finished the tournament with 22 goals, which earned him selection, while Selborne College&#8217;s <strong>Liam Hansen <\/strong>cracked the nod, too.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Kearsney College<\/strong>, who were back at the KES tournament for the first time in a while, lost only once and finished fifth.
