There were solid victories for Rhenish Girls’ High School<\/a><\/strong>, DSG Makhanda<\/strong>, Collegiate Girls’ High<\/a><\/strong>, and Clarendon High School for Girls<\/strong> on day two of the Synsport Greg Beling Festival<\/a><\/strong> in East London on Saturday.<\/p>\n

Out of the four sides, Rhenish has impressed the most, winning each of their outings, despite playing some of the top teams in the country.<\/p>\n

After a dominant showing on Friday<\/a><\/strong>, which brought them convincing wins over Voortrekker<\/strong> and Oranje<\/strong>, the Western Cape side followed up with victories over St Anne’s DSG<\/strong> (5-1) and Eunice High School<\/strong> (3-2) on Saturday at the Clarendon AstroTurf.<\/p>\n

Their meeting with Eunice was arguably their toughest and most challenging fixture of the weekend.<\/p>\n

Like Rhenish, Eunice had not tasted defeat. They headed into the clash off the back of an 8-0 hammering of Hudson Park High School <\/strong>earlier in the day.<\/p>\n

The Rhenish vs Eunice showdown was, undoubtedly, the match of the day and it lived up to expectations for all the spectators and those who tuned in on SuperSport Schools<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

After a pulsating start, the sides went into halftime level at 1-1 after goals scored by Leah du Plessis<\/strong>, for Rhenish, and Bianca Rees-Gibbs<\/strong><\/a>, for Eunice.<\/p>\n

Rees-Gibbs<\/strong> edged the Bloemfontein side ahead once more with a PC drag flick in the third chukka, much to the delight of the travelling supporters.<\/p>\n

Rhenish, however, came from behind again and scored twice to clinch an intense victory. Du Plessis completed her brace with a deadly PC drag flick, which was similar to her first goal, before Lily Newton<\/strong> converted a penalty stroke late in the game to seal the win.<\/p>\n

Rhenish will return to the Western Cape unbeaten while Eunice plays Middelburg Ho\u00ebrskool in their final match on Sunday. DSG Makhanda<\/strong>, after losing 0-2 to Eunice <\/strong>and 1-3 to Oranje <\/strong>on Friday, bounced back impressively on Saturday.<\/p>\n

They were dominant against Parel Vallei, and, after a slow start, outscored their opponents 4-1 to secure a much-needed win.<\/p>\n

On the scoresheet were Lauren M\u00e8nage<\/strong>, Anna Olivier<\/strong>, Jocelyn Appel<\/strong>, and skipper Abigail Holderness<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Collegiate Girls’ High<\/a> <\/strong>maintained their unbeaten run at the festival with two more wins.<\/p>\n

After beating Hudson Park 5-0 on Friday, they swept the floor with Middelburg Ho\u00ebrskool<\/strong> (4-0) and Bethlehem Voortrekker<\/strong> (6-0).<\/p>\n

Joining them in the winning column were the hosts, Clarendon High School for Girls. They beat Ho\u00ebrskool Witteberg 1-0 before ending the day’s play with a comprehensive 3-0 win over Alexander Road.<\/p>\n

Kingswood College continued to struggle and suffered losses against Ho\u00ebrskool Sasolburg<\/a><\/strong> and Queenstown Girls’ High<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
