\"BasketballKwaZulu-Natal is set to host Basketball South Africa’s u16 National Championship <\/strong>at UKZN<\/strong>‘s Old Mutual Sports Hall,<\/strong> in Durban, from Sunday, 30 March, through to Friday, 4 April.<\/p>\n

The event will bring together the finest u16 boys’ and girls’ basketball talents from across the nation.<\/p>\n

KZN also hosted the event in 2024, when the KwaZulu Natal Basketball Association (KZNBA)<\/strong> received the accolade for the Best Organised Team<\/strong>, and that has led to the province hosting the u16 National Championships for a second year in succession.<\/p>\n

There is much at stake for the players, with selection for the national boys’ and girls’ teams on the line. The South African national teams will contest the African Union Sports Council (AUSC) Region 5 Youth Games,<\/strong> in July, in Windhoek, Namibia.<\/p>\n

Eight provinces will contest the national championships, but the North West Province is missing, which is a significant setback for emerging talent from the region, especially as it has been a solid source of player development in recent years.<\/p>\n

The tournament tips off on Sunday afternoon, at 15:00, with the opening matches of both the boys’ and girls’ competitions being contested between the host province, KZN, and Mpumalanga.<\/p>\n

On Monday, the competition takes off with a full schedule that continues through to Thursday. On Friday, the semi-finals and finals will be played.<\/p>\n
