The hosts of the Founders Hockey Festival<\/strong>, Afrikaanse Ho\u00ebr Seunskool (Affies) <\/strong>made good use of their home-ground advantage by registering back-to-back wins on the opening day of the event, in Pretoria, on Saturday.<\/p>\n

They began their campaign with an outing against Kearsney, who hosted the Founders Festival in 2024 and went unbeaten.<\/p>\n

In a high-intensity clash,\u00a0Affies<\/em> <\/strong>netted their first goal when they converted a penalty corner in the first chukka. They doubled their advantage in the second chukka to take a healthy lead into the halftime break.<\/p>\n

Kearsney strung some good sequences of play together, but they were unable to break through the home side’s stubborn defence.<\/p>\n

They were made to pay when the hosts struck once more in the third chukka, which led to a solid 3-0 victory, courtesy of a double from\u00a0Gunther Schubert<\/strong>, with the other goal coming from the stick of Rudolf Thiart<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

In their second match, Affies took on Parktown Boys’ High School<\/strong>. Coach Colin Mendoza’<\/strong>s side picked up where they left off against Kearsney and were rewarded with a deserved 3-1 victory.<\/p>\n

St Stithians College<\/strong> also went two from two, with their hard work bringing them a 3-1 win over Queen’s College<\/strong>, which they followed with a nail-biting 4-3 defeat of Paarl Gimnasium<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Northwood School<\/strong>, after a slow start to the day in a goalless draw against Rondebosch Boys’ High<\/strong>, found the back of the net twice against Dale College to secure a 2-0 win.\u00a0Rondebosch followed their morning draw with a tight 1-0 victory over Kearsney<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Dale suffered two losses on the day, also going down 0-4 to St David’s Marist Inanda<\/strong>. They’ll attempt to reverse course on Sunday when they take on Kearsney<\/strong> and Parktown Boys’ High.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Paarl Gim is still in search of a first win at the festival. After their narrow loss to St Stithians, they played to a 2-2 draw with Parktown.<\/p>\n

Queen’s College is also chasing a first victory. Apart from their 1-3 loss to Saints<\/strong><\/em>, they shared a high-scoring 3-3 draw with St David’s.<\/p>\n

Sunday’s schedule features 10 matches.<\/p>\n
