Photo: <strong>St John&#8217;s College<\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>St John\u2019s College<\/strong> enjoyed day two of the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/top-teams-head-to-jeppe-for-the-nomads-hockey-festival\/\">Nomads Hockey Festival<\/a><\/strong> at <strong>Jeppe High School for Boys,<\/strong> delivering two quality performances on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>The side, led by coach <strong>Gilbert de Villiers<\/strong> and <strong>Anthony Woodhouse<\/strong>, defeated <strong>Wynberg Boys&#8217; High<\/strong> 3-1 in the morning before playing to a thrilling 3-3 draw with <strong>Selborne College<\/strong> in the afternoon.<\/p>\n<p>It was a drama-filled day at the <strong>Boden AstroTurf<\/strong>, with lightning halting play for most of the morning.<\/p>\n<p>Before the delay, though, St John&#8217;s took to the park in the second match of the day against a Wynberg side still trying to find its feet.<\/p>\n<p>Coach De Villiers&#8217; boys were in search of their first win after going down to <strong>Hilton College<\/strong> (0-1), and <strong>Grey College<\/strong> (1-4) on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>Wynberg, meanwhile, defeated <strong>Pretoria Boys High<\/strong> 3-1 but <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/jeppe-kicks-off-nomads-hockey-festival-with-a-bang\/\">lost to the hosts, Jeppe, 0-4 on the opening day<\/a><\/strong>.<br \/>\n<strong><br \/>\nTapiwa Mutetwa<\/strong> opened the scoring for his side in the first chukka and was later joined on the score sheet by <strong>Ben Nagel<\/strong> and <strong>Dylan Viljoen<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Nagel scored from a tap-in on the far post, while Viljoen converted from a penalty corner, which was won by young <strong>Motheo Mparutsa<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Selborne refused to go down without a fight, and <strong>Reid Drake<\/strong> came to their rescue with three drag flicks, the last of which came late in the fourth chukka.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Hockey - St John&amp;apos;s College vs Selborne College - Nomands U18 Hockey Festival - 30 March 2025\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/v4aJg4Hc_EI?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Reacting to his team&#8217;s Sunday performances, St John\u2019s captain, <strong>Owethu Sishuba<\/strong>, said he was impressed by his side&#8217;s ability to bounce back after a disappointing opening day. &#8220;The team is very happy about today,&#8221; he told <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/hockey\/\">SuperSport Schools Plus<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We spoke in the dugout about the importance of bouncing after a tough day one and losing two games. It&#8217;s a good turnaround, but we want to be consistent and go again tomorrow.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Sishuba has been one of St John&#8217;s top performances at Nomads, presenting a rock-solid presence at the back to help keep his team out of danger alongside goalkeeper <strong>Kamogelo Thobejane<\/strong>, who also serves in the last line of defence for the St John&#8217;s water polo team.<\/p>\n<p>They Houghton boys face <strong>Maritzburg College<\/strong> on Monday at 11:15, and Sishuba said he\u2019ll urge his teammates to be up for the clash.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;They are a good team, but I think fatigue might play a major role for both sides,&#8221; he shared. &#8220;It will be a mental game and will come down to which team is up for the fixture and which team is ready to fight for it.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Hockey Highlights - Jeppe vs Grey College - Nomands U18 Hockey Festival - 30 March 2025\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/0kFEuSpg3ic?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>In other big matches, <strong>Grey College<\/strong>, who won both their games on Saturday, shared draws with Jeppe and <strong>King Edward VII<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Both contests ended 2-2 after the Bloemfontein boys made a <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/three-teams-impress-on-day-one-of-the-nomads-hockey-festival\/\">scintillating start on day one<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Their meeting with KES was an entertaining clash that ebbed and flowed and kept spectators intrigued.
