The rugby on Saturday, the second day, saw some excellent matches with more exciting schoolboy rugby anticipated on Monday.

Four teams remain unbeaten at the festival: hosts Kearsney College, Glenwood High School, Dale College from King Williams Town and Selborne College from East London.

Kearsney will close the festival with the final game against HTS Middelburg. The hosts have scored 11 tries on the first two days, whilst Middelburg have scored only two. However it is the forwards from Middelburg who could dominate and starve Kearsney of ball. This could end with a very tight and intense game.

Dale, with their exciting back line, will be hoping to run Glenwood ragged. The latter matched the forward power of Middelburg and again it is the Glenwood forwards who will hope to dominate in this game and prevent too much loose ball on which Dale thrive.

Selborne, the other unbeaten team, play against SACS and this could be a cracker. The two teams look to be evenly matched, with good forwards and some talented backs. Much will come down to the defensive patterns and missed tackles could be crucial in the outcome. The game kicks off at 10h45.

Maritzburg College, the side with the least ‘beef’ at the festival, face Dr EG Jansen from Boksburg. From the first match to the second at the festival, College defence improved greatly and they will again be called upon to tackle their hearts out against some big players in the Gauteng side.

Hoerskool Noord-Kaap, another team which showed great improvement on Saturday, will play Framesby from Port Elizabeth. The latter have shown glimpses of brilliance but need to be more consistent if they wish to win this game.
Perfect playing conditions and a well-organised event have attracted good crowds to Botha’s Hill where the second day of the festival produced some cracking rugby; with a frenetic game of big forwards tussling in the tight loose in the match between Glenwood and HTS Middelburg, contrasted by an exciting spectacle of running schoolboy rugby in the game between Kearsney and SACS, which saw the lead changing six times.

At the end of the last game of the festival, talent scouts and selectors from The Sharks and Sharks Academy will award three bursaries comprising a contract with The Sharks Academy and tuition bursary with one of their academic partners.

As part of the festival’s ‘Boots and Balls’ outreach initiative, the collection of rugby kit and clothing will be handed over to the KZNRU Development Programme during the closing ceremony. The public is encouraged to leave new and good condition second-hand rugby gear in designated collection bins at the main field.

Gate entrance to the festival is R50 per vehicle or R20 for pedestrians.
