{"id":70186,"date":"2025-04-17T20:33:02","date_gmt":"2025-04-17T18:33:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/?p=70186"},"modified":"2025-04-17T20:33:02","modified_gmt":"2025-04-17T18:33:02","slug":"jansen-on-top-against-hosts-kearsney-while-the-horseflies-proved-too-strong-for-rusties","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/test.ssschoolsplus.co.za\/?p=70186","title":{"rendered":"Jansen on top against Kearsney, while the Horseflies prove too strong for Rusties"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_70189\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-70189\" style=\"width: 400px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-70189 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/WhatsApp-Image-2025-04-17-at-11.55.50-2-400x267.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"267\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-70189\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo: Tap Light Edits<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>Dr EG Jansen<\/strong> triumphed 29-24 over <strong>Kearsney College<\/strong> in the fourth match of the opening day&#8217;s play at the <strong>Standard Bank Kearsney College Easter Festival<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>As good as the boys from Boksburg were on Thursday, they were helped in part by a number of unforced errors from the hosts, whose basics let them down.<\/p>\n<p>Still, the teams produced one of the most competitive games of the day.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Jansies<\/strong> <\/em>weren&#8217;t hanging around early on and were quickly rewarded for their bold, expansive play when <strong>Deashean Pietersen<\/strong>\u00a0and <strong>Otlotleng Zulu<\/strong> finished off great counterattacks from deep before an ensuing breakaway try from<strong> Juan van Aswegen<\/strong> made it 19-0.<\/p>\n<p>Just before halftime, Kearsney launched an all-out assault on the EG Jansen try line but couldn\u2019t unlock the visitors&#8217; defence, with their passing accuracy and the opposition&#8217;s gain-line dominance ensuring <strong>Reghardt Botha&#8217;s<\/strong> charges headed into halftime the happier of the sides.<\/p>\n<p>Kearsney came out firing at the start of the second half, with winger <strong>Lwandile Mkhize<\/strong> running in their festival opener from 80-odd metres out. That fast start was just what the doctor ordered, and skipper <strong>Simanye Mlakalaka<\/strong> scored another soon thereafter to make it 12-19.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Rugby - Kearsney College vs Dr. EG Jansen - Kearsney Easter Rugby Festival - 17 April 2025\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/86I592Ykk8M?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>EG Jansen hit back after setting up camp deep inside Kearney&#8217;s territory, and they finally picked up their first points of the half when left winger <strong>Jordan van der Westhuizen<\/strong> dived over out wide.<\/p>\n<p>The teams continued to trade tries, with <strong>Joseph Roylance<\/strong>, <strong>De Wet Muller,<\/strong> and <strong>Doan Nel<\/strong> all going over in what became a topsy-turvy affair in the second half. Ultimately, though, it was the Gauteng school that held out for an all-important win.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Durban High School<\/strong> scored a comprehensive 41-7 win over <strong>Ho\u00ebrskool Rustenburg<\/strong> in the third game of the festival.<\/p>\n<p>The result ensured the unbeaten <em><strong>Horseflies<\/strong> <\/em>extended their winning run to six matches this year, and you&#8217;d have to be a brave man to bet against them going unbeaten at KERF yet again.<\/p>\n<p>DHS withstood an effervescent start from the North West side to score through right-wing <strong>Richard Gyamfi<\/strong>. When <strong>Mthiyane Zinkosi<\/strong> dotted down for DHS against the run of play, just before the break, their job became even harder.<\/p>\n<p>Things soon got worse for Rustenburg, who struggled to get out of their half, and they conceded again when a powerful driving maul teed up SA Schools A midfielder <strong>Zingce Simka<\/strong> for DHS&#8217;s third.<\/p>\n<p><strong>MJ Otto<\/strong> hit back for the boys in green, but another Simka effort, as well as two tries from <strong>Milisuthando George<\/strong>, sealed the deal for the Durban boys.<\/p>\n<p><strong>SCORERS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>EG Jansen 29 (19) &#8211;<\/strong> Tries: Deashean Pietersen, Otlotleng Zulu, Juan van Aswegen, Jordan van der Westhuizen, De Wet Muller.
