Photo:<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/web.facebook.com\/profile.php?id=61564213538889\"> Shot by Shani Photography<\/a><\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>Reid Drake<\/strong> scored a hat-trick of goals to help <strong>Selborne College<\/strong> secure a hard-fought 3-2 victory over<strong> Queen&#8217;s College<\/strong>, in Komani, on Friday night.<\/p>\n<p>The Eastern Cape derby was played on <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/queens-on-the-hunt-for-reunion-glory-against-selborne\/\">Queen&#8217;s College&#8217;s <\/a><\/strong><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/queens-on-the-hunt-for-reunion-glory-against-selborne\/\">167th Reunion Weekend<\/a><\/strong>, and the occasion saw the <strong>Chris Harker AstroTurf<\/strong> filled to the rafters.<\/p>\n<p>Both sides headed into the clash on the back of mixed results at the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/thrilling-finishes-mark-the-end-of-the-21st-kes-hockey-festival\/\">King Edward VII Easter Hockey Festival,<\/a><\/strong> in Johannesburg, last week.<\/p>\n<p>Selborne&#8217;s last outing ended in a 3-4 loss against <strong>Glenwood High School<\/strong>, while Queen&#8217;s suffered a hefty 0-5 defeat at the hands of the high-flying <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/jeppe-kicks-off-nomads-hockey-festival-with-a-bang\/\">Jeppe High School for Boys<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The teams were evenly matched in the early going on Friday night as both sides struggled to find their rhythm.<\/p>\n<p>The hosts, though, opened the scoring late in the first quarter after a PC drag flick by their dangerman<strong> Brett Hoffman<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Selborne wasn&#8217;t about to back down, though, and they came out firing after the break. After generating\u00a0persistent pressure, they were awarded a penalty corner. Drake, who has been superb from the top of the D this season, converted to make it 1-1.<\/p>\n<p>A few minutes later, he had two goals to his name, and before halftime, Drake had completed his hat-trick, with each of his goals coming from penalty corner drag flicks.<\/p>\n<p>The game looked done and dusted, but Queen&#8217;s pulled one back through <strong>Aiden van Jaarsveld<\/strong> in the second half.<\/p>\n<p>They made a late push for an equaliser, but Selborne remained resolute and secured a much-needed win away from home.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Grey High School<\/strong>, meanwhile,\u00a0continued their impressive start to the season with a 5-1 victory over <strong>Dale College<\/strong>, in Gqeberha.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier, in a mid-week game, Grey had handed <strong>Pearson High<\/strong> a 4-0 defeat, so they were brimming with confidence and had their tails up.<\/p>\n<p>It was business as usual for coach <strong>Andrew Beynon&#8217;<\/strong>s side when the usual suspects &#8211; <strong>Dante Elkington<\/strong>, <strong>Athi Voigt<\/strong>, <strong>James Chree<\/strong>, <strong>Logan Goddard-Ford,<\/strong> and skipper <strong>Luke Tait<\/strong>\u00a0 &#8211; found the back of the net.<\/p>\n<p>While there was joy for Grey at home, Pearson High suffered a second big blow, going down 1-4 to <strong>Ho\u00ebrskool Outeniqua<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Cambridge High School<\/strong> welcomed Graeme College to East London and grabbed a 2-0 win, thanks to goals from <strong>\u00a0Lihle Hempe<\/strong> and <strong>Anganathi Nyongo<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Next week, Selborne, Grey, and Pearson will be in action in the upcoming <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/everything-you-need-to-know-about-the-2025-hibbert-shield\/\">Hibbert Shield<\/a>.<\/strong> Hosted by Grey, it runs from Wednesday, 30 April, to Friday, 2 May, and features many of the country&#8217;s leading teams.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/supersportschools.com\/\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Catch the Hibbert Shield LIVE on SuperSport Schools<\/span><\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Reid Drake scored a hat-trick of goals to help Selborne College secure a hard-fought 3-2 victory over Queen&#8217;s College, in Komani, on Friday night.
