Photo: <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/scotyg_photography\/?hl=en\">Scott Geer (scotyg_photography)<\/a><\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The <strong>Queen&#8217;s College<\/strong>, <strong>Grey High School<\/strong>, and <strong>St Andrew\u2019s College <\/strong>1st XIs, walked away with comprehensive victories on Friday night in the Eastern Cape.<\/p>\n<p>Queen&#8217;s, after making the trip from Komani to Qonce, scored a 4-2 victory over their arch-rivals <strong>Dale College<\/strong>, who were celebrating their 164th reunion.<\/p>\n<p>Grey High, who were celebrating their 169th reunion, outplayed <strong>Wynberg Boys&#8217; High<\/strong> to clinch a 3-1 win, while St Andrew&#8217;s College took down <strong>Pearson High School<\/strong>, also winning 3-1, in Gqeberha.<\/p>\n<p>Dale welcomed Queen&#8217;s to the King AstroTurf and the sides delivered four goals in the opening half, which ended 2-2. After the break, the visitors lifted their game and struck twice more to secure victory.<\/p>\n<p>On the scoresheet for Queen&#8217;s College were their skipper <strong>Aiden van Jaarsveld<\/strong>, <strong>Brett Hoffmann<\/strong>, and <strong>Liso Mtalaliso<\/strong>, who contributed a brace for the winners.<\/p>\n<p>The hosts&#8217; goals came from their captain <strong>Sibongile Nzima<\/strong>, who nailed two penalty corners from the top of the D.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The game was tough, as can be expected when coming up against Dale on their reunion. But it was a great contest and made for a really good game of hockey,&#8221; Queen&#8217;s skipper, Aiden van Jaarsveld, told <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/SchoolofHockey\">SuperSport Schools Plus<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I feel we were dominant in all aspects, especially attack. We moved the ball well, allowing us to create opportunities and get outcomes.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It feels good to gain some momentum and puts us in a good space for the upcoming fixture. Hopefully, we can keep it going throughout the season.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Hockey - Grey High School vs Wynberg Boys&amp;apos; High - Friday Nite Lights - 9 May 2025\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/fPOOQ6NpSGg?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>While Queen&#8217;s celebrated their first win against Dale in a year, Grey High had the mammoth task of facing Wynberg Boys&#8217; High at the <strong>Rectory AstroTurf<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Grey was coming off a disappointing <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/sacs-outplays-paarl-gim-to-break-hibbert-shield-hoodoo\/\">Hibbert Shield<\/a><\/strong> tournament, where they finished ninth, while Wynberg defeated Pearson High 3-0 in a warm-up match the night before.<\/p>\n<p>The visitors started brightly, and their captain <strong>Zach Gibbon<\/strong> opened the scoring early in the first chukka.<\/p>\n<p>That goal was quickly matched at the other end of the turf where Grey received a short corner after a penetrating run inside the circle by <strong>Athi Voigt<\/strong> found a foot. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/five-youngsters-aiming-to-impress-at-the-hibbert-shield\/\">James Chree<\/a><\/strong> stepped up and struck with a drag flick to even the contest.<\/p>\n<p>The home side then took the lead on the stroke of halftime when <strong>Jordyn Billie<\/strong> converted after a goalmouth scramble, following a PC, to make it 2-1.<\/p>\n<p>Grey extended their advantage in the third chukka through skipper<strong> Luke Tait<\/strong>, who scored after executing an outrageous Tomahawk backhand shot to make it 3-1.<\/p>\n<p>The Wynberg boys were unable to work their way back into the game, and Grey held on for the win.<\/p>\n<p><strong>St Andrew\u2019s College<\/strong>, back from a tour of The Netherlands, defeated Pearson High 3-1.<\/p>\n<p>After conceding first, the boys from Makhanda bounced back in style, and a hat-trick of goals from <strong>Greg Rodwell<\/strong> took them to the win<\/p>\n<p>Hudson Park clinched an impressive 2-1 win over Ho\u00ebrskool Framesby, with <strong>Linako Vutha<\/strong> and<strong> Lunathi Solwandle<\/strong> scoring for the East London outfit.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Stirling High<\/strong> played to a 1-1 draw with <strong>Merrifield College<\/strong>, while<strong> Woodridge College<\/strong> stunned <strong>York High<\/strong> 3-2 in George.<\/p>\n<p><strong>RESULTS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Hudson Park 2-1 Ho\u00ebrskool Framesby<br \/>\nQueen\u2019s College 4-2 Dale College<br \/>\nSt Andrew\u2019s College 3-1 Pearson High<br \/>\nStirling High 1-1 Merrifield College<br \/>\nGrey High School 3-1 Wynberg Boys&#8217; High<br \/>\nWoodridge College 3-2 York High<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Queen&#8217;s College, Grey High School, and St Andrew\u2019s College 1st XIs, walked away with comprehensive victories on Friday night in the Eastern Cape.
