{"id":72151,"date":"2025-05-13T10:36:54","date_gmt":"2025-05-13T08:36:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/?p=72151"},"modified":"2025-05-13T10:36:54","modified_gmt":"2025-05-13T08:36:54","slug":"amajita-qualify-for-u20-fifa-world-cup","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/test.ssschoolsplus.co.za\/?p=72151","title":{"rendered":"Amajita qualify for u20 FIFA World Cup"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-72154 \" src=\"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/Amajita-400x469.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"302\" height=\"354\" \/>The <strong>South African u20 <\/strong>national team<strong>,<\/strong> known as <strong>Amajita<\/strong>, has qualified for the<strong> 2025 FIFA u20 World Cup,<\/strong> set to take place in <strong>Chile<\/strong> from 27 October to 19 November.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s another big boost for South African football, with Amajita joining the <a href=\"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/amajimbos-qualify-for-u17-fifa-world-cup\/\"><strong>South African u17 national team<\/strong><\/a>, which has already qualified for the u17 FIFA World Cup, to be hosted in <strong>Qatar<\/strong> from 3-27 November.<\/p>\n<p>Amajita secured their qualification by advancing to the semi-finals of the ongoing <strong>Confederation of African Football (CAF)<\/strong> u20 <strong>Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon),<\/strong> after a 1-0 victory over the <strong>Democratic Republic of the Congo<\/strong> in the quarterfinals on Monday.<\/p>\n<div id=\"left-area\">\n<article id=\"post-37906\" class=\"et_pb_post post-37906 post type-post status-publish format-standard has-post-thumbnail hentry category-amajita category-caf category-general-news category-media category-national-men category-news category-u20-mens\">\n<div class=\"entry-content\">\n<p>Following the victory, Amajita&#8217;s head coach, <strong>Raymond Mdaka<\/strong> told <strong>SAFA Media<\/strong>: &#8220;We used almost everything that we thought we had, technically, tactically, physically and the character.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;You could see they had a very good plan for us, but we were fortunate not to concede in the first half and in the second half. We sorted it out and then we, at least, came back and were able to get a goal and protected the goal.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/article>\n<\/div>\n<p>The match was at the <strong>Suez Canal Authority Stadium<\/strong> in Ismailia, <strong>Egypt<\/strong>, on Monday evening, with Amajita scoring the decisive goal during extra time after the game ended in a 0-0 draw in the standard 90 minutes.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Thabang Mahlangu<\/strong>, with an assist from <strong>Shakeel April,<\/strong> netted the winning goal, which not only sealed Amajita&#8217;s progression to the u20 FIFA World Cup but also to the semi-finals of the u20 Afcon. They&#8217;re still in the running to claim the continental title, of course.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Dr. Danny Jordaan<\/strong>, the President of the <strong>South African Football Association (SAFA)<\/strong>, commended Amajita, saying their diligent efforts in Egypt have been recognised.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This is another momentous occasion, coming so soon after we qualified for the <strong>2025 African Nations Championship (CHAN)<\/strong> on Sunday, and the FIFA u17 World Cup to be held in Qatar from 3\u201327 November 2025,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n<p>Three African powerhouses &#8211; Egypt<strong>, Morocco<\/strong>, and <strong>Nigeria <\/strong>&#8211; qualified for the Afcon semis along with South Africa. All four have qualified for the World Cup.<\/p>\n<p>Egypt faces Morocco on Thursday at the <strong>30 June Stadium,<\/strong> while South Africa takes on Nigeria at the Suez Canal Authority Stadium, also on Thursday.
