Photo: <strong>Grant Howard<\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>After a week\u2019s break and some time out to reboot and energise, <strong>Grey High School<\/strong> returns to the turf this weekend when they travel to face <strong>Queen&#8217;s College<\/strong>, in Komani, on Friday afternoon.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, <strong>Selborne College<\/strong> will face the stern examination when they take on <strong>St Andrew&#8217;s College<\/strong>, in Makhanda, at the <strong>Webster AstroTurf<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this month, Grey High scored a solid <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/queens-grey-high-and-st-andrews-college-win-big-in-the-eastern-cape\/\">3-1 victory over Wynberg Boys&#8217; High<\/a><\/strong>, in Gqeberha.<\/p>\n<p>Coach <strong>Andrew Beynon<\/strong>&#8216;s squad went into that clash off the back of a disappointing <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/sacs-outplays-paarl-gim-to-break-hibbert-shield-hoodoo\/\">Hibbert Shield<\/a> <\/strong>campaign, but they put that behind them and put on a good show in front of a big Reunion Day crowd.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/five-youngsters-aiming-to-impress-at-the-hibbert-shield\/\">James Chree<\/a><\/strong>, <strong>Jordyn Billie<\/strong>, and captain<strong> Luke Tait<\/strong> were the names on the scoresheet on that occasion. It was, also, a special occasion for <strong>Athi Voigt<\/strong> and <strong>Liam Poole<\/strong>, who both reached 50 games for the 1st XI.<\/p>\n<p>The boys in blue and white then turned their attention to a mid-week clash against <strong>Kingswood College<\/strong>, in Makhanda.<\/p>\n<p>Grey dominated and despite failing to capitalise on many of the chances they created, they walked away with a 4-0 victory, courtesy of a brace by Tait, with <strong>Keegan\u00a0le Roux<\/strong> and <strong>Luke Malherbe<\/strong> also scoring.<\/p>\n<p>Over the bye weekend, Grey&#8217;s players stayed active by participating in the school\u2019s annual <strong>Hockey Slam, <\/strong>a fundraising event that allows teams to play for different franchises and challenge for the title. They&#8217;ll be eager to get back on the park against a tricky Queen&#8217;s College side.<\/p>\n<p>Queen&#8217;s has endured mixed fortunes over the past two weeks. Last Friday, they were on the receiving end of a hefty <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/drake-on-song-as-selborne-thumps-dale-makhanda-sides-triumph\/\">1-5 loss against St Andrew&#8217;s College<\/a><\/strong>, while they defeated <strong>Dale College<\/strong> 4-2 the week before.<\/p>\n<p>Playing in front of their supporters at the <strong>Chris Harker AstroTurf<\/strong> could just be the push coach <strong>Michael Baiden<\/strong>&#8216;s side needs to pull off a major upset.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_72843\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-72843\" style=\"width: 400px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-72843\" src=\"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/Selborne-Dale-win-400x266.jpg\" alt=\"Selborne will look to build on their 5-1 victory against Dale College when they face St Andrew's College in Makhanda on Friday. Photo: <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/web.facebook.com\/profile.php?id=61564213538889\">Shot by Shani Photography<\/a><\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Selborne College will also be on the road this weekend as they travel to face St Andrew&#8217;s College in Makhanda.<\/p>\n<p>The boys in black and white got their season back on track with an emphatic 5-1 triumph over Dale College in East London last week.<\/p>\n<p>All five goals were scored by their talisman, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/drake-on-song-as-selborne-thumps-dale-makhanda-sides-triumph\/\">Reid Drake<\/a><\/strong>, who has been in sublime form for coach <strong>KJ Friend&#8217;<\/strong>s side.<\/p>\n<p>They won&#8217;t have it easy, though, against a tough St Andrew&#8217;s side that has proved to be a handful for many teams in the province and beyond its boundaries this season.<\/p>\n<p>In May alone, they&#8217;ve overpowered<strong> Pearson High<\/strong> 3-1 and thumped Queen&#8217;s 5-1. Home ground advantage could further benefit the boys from Makhanda as they continue to assert themselves as one of the top sides in the Eastern Cape.<\/p>\n<p>In other matches, <strong>Hudson Park<\/strong>, after playing to a 4-4 draw with <strong>Victoria Park<\/strong> and losing 0-4 against <strong>Pearson<\/strong>, will be chasing a bounce-back performance against <strong>Merrifield College<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>For a second consecutive week, Dale travels to East London.
