\"\"The annual Soweto Basketball Uprising Tournament,<\/strong> an u18 basketball event organised by the Soweto Basketball Academy (SBA),<\/strong> got underway on Friday, with the hosts setting the tone on the first day.<\/p>\n

The tournament, which runs through until Monday, kicked into action with four matches.<\/p>\n

The boys’ and girls’ teams from SBA immediately showed the benefit of their home advantage on the court at Morris Isaacson High School<\/strong>. in Jabavu, Soweto.<\/p>\n

In their opening match, SBA’s boys’ team dominated Norkem Park High School<\/strong>, rocketing to an 89-15 win, which served as a strong statement of their intention to go all the way.<\/p>\n

The SBA girls’ team, the winners of the AISJ Basketball Tournament<\/strong> <\/a>and the u18 girls’ Old Petrians Basketball Tournament<\/strong> at the end of February this year, also faced Norkem Park in their Pool A opener in the only girls’ game of the day. They, too, won comfortably, posting a 50-20 victory<\/p>\n

In Friday’s other games, Jozi Stars<\/strong> scored a 58-52 win over Jenny Wu Sports Academy (JWSA)<\/strong>, while\u00a0there were only three points in it in Elite Basketball Academy<\/strong>‘s\u00a0(EBA)<\/strong> hard-fought 50-47 victory over Eagles<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The action and the excitement will ramp up on Saturday, with the first tip-off at 08:00 and the last games starting at 16:00.<\/p>\n
