{"id":77168,"date":"2025-07-09T09:38:10","date_gmt":"2025-07-09T07:38:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/?p=77168"},"modified":"2025-07-09T09:38:10","modified_gmt":"2025-07-09T07:38:10","slug":"engen-knockout-challenge-expands-in-the-eastern-cape","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/test.ssschoolsplus.co.za\/?p=77168","title":{"rendered":"Engen Knockout Challenge expands in the Eastern Cape"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_77171\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-77171\" style=\"width: 400px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-77171 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/48_Thabo-Senong-400x267.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"267\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-77171\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Coach Thabo Senong at the Engen Knockout Eastern Cape Knockout Eastern Cape draw.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The draw for the Eastern Cape leg of South Africa\u2019s leading youth football tournament, the <strong>Engen Knockout Challenge<\/strong>, took place on Tuesday at the Kennaway Hotel, in East London.<\/p>\n<p>The event brought together representatives from Engen, the <strong>Eastern Cape Football Association<\/strong>, participating clubs, and key football stakeholders, and set the stage for the regional tournament, which will be played on 26-27 July at <strong>Dale College<\/strong>, in Qonce.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s the first time that the tournament visits Qonce and it demonstrates Engen&#8217;s ongoing efforts to widen access and opportunity within grassroots football.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking at the event, Engen Knockout Challenge ambassador and FIFA Talent Coach, <strong>Thabo Senong<\/strong>, highlighted the importance of taking the tournament to new communities.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s vital for platforms like the Engen Knockout Challenge to reach different parts of the country,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;By moving into King William&#8217;s Town (Qonce), we open the door to players with talent who just need the right platform. It&#8217;s how we grow South African football.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Engen Communications Manager, <strong>Gavin Smith<\/strong>, reiterated the brand\u2019s continued investment in youth development and spoke about the vision behind this year\u2019s campaign message: &#8220;The Engen Knockout Challenge continues to be a space where potential is recognised and developed.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This year&#8217;s message, &#8216;It&#8217;s Your Moment, Future Diski Legends&#8217;, is a reminder to every young player that their time is now.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The tournament in Qonce will feature 16 girls&#8217; and 16 boys&#8217; teams.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Engen Knockout Challenge Eastern Cape Groups<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Girls&#8217; draw<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Group A: Caledonian AFC, Maivuke FC, Phoenix Birds Ladies FC<br \/>\nGroup B: Coastal United Ladies FC, Golden Stars Ladies, City Lads FC<br \/>\nGroup C: Shakes 1O1, Ebhayi FC, WSU BCC<br \/>\nGroup D: Blackpool Ladies FC, Nav-Galaxy Ladies, Buffalo Stars Ladies<\/p>\n<p><strong>Boys&#8217; draw<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Group A: Malcomess Secondary School, Braelyn Brothers Fc, Maria-Kouw High School<br \/>\nGroup B: Chippa United FC, United Professional FC, City Strikers FC<br \/>\nGroup C: Matshona Young Stars, Red Lions FC, Real Aces FC<br \/>\nGroup D: Mini Stars FC, Highbury FC, Strikers FC<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The draw for the Eastern Cape leg of South Africa\u2019s leading youth football tournament, the Engen Knockout Challenge, took place on Tuesday at the Kennaway Hotel, in East London.
