Photo: <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/TeamphotoSA\/\">TeamPhotoSA<\/a><\/strong>.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>Southern Gauteng A<\/strong> pulled off a shock on Thursday at the <strong>u16 SASHOC National Week<\/strong> when they handed <strong>Eastern Province A<\/strong> their first defeat of the competition in the last round of pool matches.<\/p>\n<p>Southerns&#8217; win injected new energy into the battle for second place in Pool A, which would secure a semi-final place alongside EP, who were already assured of their semi spot.<\/p>\n<p>The defending champions, who had cruised unbeaten through their first four matches, went down 1-2 to Southerns on Hilton College&#8217;s <strong>Mansergh Astro<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Giovanna Abrahams<\/strong> and <strong>Lucy Wells<\/strong> found the back of the net for Gauteng, with <strong>Kiyara Constable<\/strong> responding for Eastern Province.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the loss, Eastern Province still finished first in Pool A. Their reward is a showdown with <strong>Boland A <\/strong>for a place in the final.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, <strong>Heather Kane <\/strong>slotted the only goal of the match in <strong>Western Province A<\/strong>&#8216;s tight 1-0 win over <strong>Southern Gauteng B<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>That proved to be just enough for the Capetonians. They claimed second place by a single goal on goal difference over Southern Gauteng A &#8211; who had been held to a 1-1 draw by Southern Gauteng B earlier in the tournament &#8211; after posting three wins, a draw, and a loss to Eastern Province.<\/p>\n<p>Southern Free State A closed out their pool stage assignments with a dominant 8\u20131 victory over struggling <strong>Eastern Gauteng A<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Marichelle Crous<\/strong> stole the spotlight, scoring four times, while <strong>Carmen van Wyk<\/strong> added a hat-trick, with <strong>Mpho Seloane<\/strong> completing the Free Staters&#8217; big win. <strong>Renette Strydom<\/strong> replied for Eastern Gauteng.<\/p>\n<p>Thanks to her big four-goal day, Crous now tops the goal scoring charts, with six, one ahead of <strong>Charley-Rose Boyall<\/strong>, of <strong>KZN Coastal A<\/strong>, and <strong>Lucy Holderness<\/strong>, of Eastern Province.<\/p>\n<p>In Pool B, the contest between<strong> Boland A and KZN Inland A<\/strong> ended in a 1\u20131 draw. <strong>Lakeisha Dudley <\/strong>struck for Boland, while<strong> Taslyn van Wyk<\/strong> equalised for Inland, who, after a slow start, have grown in confidence the further the tournament has progressed.<\/p>\n<p>KZN Coastal A maintained their impressive form and their perfect record with a 2\u20131 victory over <strong>Northern Gauteng A<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Keamogelo Baakaleng <\/strong>and Charley-Rose Boyall scored to secure the win, while <strong>Lenique Vogel<\/strong> netted Northern Gauteng\u2019s only goal.<\/p>\n<p>The clash between <strong>KZN Coastal B<\/strong> and <strong>Boland B<\/strong> ended in a 1\u20131 draw, with<strong> Becca Short<\/strong> striking for Coastal and<strong> Mine\u0301 King<\/strong> replying for the Bolanders in an evenly balanced encounter.<\/p>\n<p>The first of the semi-finals, between KZN Coastal A and Western Province A takes place on the Mansergh Astro at 10:50 on Saturday, with the second semi, between\u00a0Eastern Province and Boland, starting at 13:40 at the same venue.<\/p>\n<p><strong>RESULTS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>POOL A<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong><br \/>\nEastern Province A 1:<\/strong> Kiyara Constable. <strong>Southern Gauteng A 2:<\/strong> Giovanna Abrahams, Lucy Wells.<br \/>\n<strong>Western Province A 1:<\/strong> Heather Kane. <strong>Southern Gauteng B 0<\/strong>.<br \/>\n<strong>Southern Free State A 8:<\/strong> Marichelle Crous (X4), Carmen Van Wyk (X3), Mpho Seloane. <strong>Eastern Gauteng A 1:<\/strong> Renette Strydom.<\/p>\n<p><strong>POOL B<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong><br \/>\nBoland A 1:<\/strong> Lakeisha Dudley. <strong>KZN Inland A 1:<\/strong> Taslyn van Wyk.<br \/>\n<strong>KZN Coastal B 1:<\/strong> Becca Short.<strong> Boland B 1:<\/strong> Mine\u0301 King<br \/>\n<strong>KZN Coastal A 2:<\/strong> Keamogelo Baakaleng, Charley-Rose Boyall. <strong>Northern Gauteng A 1:<\/strong> Lenique Vogel.<br \/>\n<strong>KZN Inland A 3:<\/strong> Beayu Chiang, Rebbeca Hellberg, Taslyn Van Wyk.<strong> KZN Coastal B 1:<\/strong> KEmily Hughes.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Southern Gauteng A pulled off a shock on Thursday at the u16 SASHOC National Week when they handed Eastern Province A their first defeat of the competition in the last round of pool matches.
