Photo. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/web.facebook.com\/photo?fbid=1438264514394147&amp;set=pcb.1438264961060769\">Jeppe on Facebook<\/a><\/strong>.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The inaugural <strong>Association of Public Boys&#8217; Schools of South Africa (APBSA)<\/strong> Football Festival kicked off at <strong>King Edward VII School<\/strong> (KES), in Johannesburg, on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>The event is intended to be a festival, which means there is no overall winner, but the intensity on the fields was palpable on a day of very evenly contested competition.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Jeppe High School for Boys<\/strong> have put together some outstanding performances in 2025 and they showed up well again.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this season, they defeated the champion of the <strong>Mancosa KZHSFA Coastal A-League<\/strong>, <a href=\"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/westville-boys-lifts-kznhsfa-coastal-a-league-title\/\"><strong>Westville Boys&#8217; High<\/strong><\/a> in a pre-tournament match leading up to the <a href=\"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/absa-wildeklawer-has-a-new-champion-virginia-high-school\/\"><strong>Absa Wildeklawer Soccer Tournament<\/strong><\/a> at which Jeppe finished 15th position, just behind another KwaZulu-Natal and South African powerhouse in school football, <a href=\"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/maritzburg-college-crowned-kzn-inland-a-league-champion\/\"><strong>Maritzburg College<\/strong><\/a>, the <strong>Mancosa KZNHSFA Inland A-League<\/strong> champions, which highlighted the competitiveness of that tournament.<\/p>\n<p>It was a chastening final position for Jeppe, though, but coach <a href=\"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/kevin-mccarthy-talks-about-the-rise-of-jeppe-football\/\"><strong>Kevin McCarthy<\/strong><\/a> told <a href=\"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/\"><strong>SuperSport Schools Plus<\/strong><\/a> earlier this year in an exclusive interview that Jeppe football is progressing and on a positive trajectory. That appeared to be the case on Tuesday as they drew 1-1 with <strong>Northwood<\/strong> before outplaying <strong>St Andrew&#8217;s School<\/strong> 5-1.<\/p>\n<p>Against St Andrew&#8217;s School, <strong>Nkosinathi Maselela<\/strong> and <strong>Yusuf Sarfudin<\/strong> both struck twice, with <strong>Cian Edmeades<\/strong> netting their fifth. <strong>Diego Freire<\/strong> was on the score sheet against Northwood.<\/p>\n<p>The hosts, KES, were held to a 0-0 stalemate by <strong>Paul Roos Gimnasium (PRG)<\/strong> in a highly anticipated match between two of the top guns from Gauteng and the Western Cape. In their following match, KES faced another reputable opponent, <strong>Grey College<\/strong>, and had to again settle for a draw, with the contest ending 1-1.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_77577\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-77577\" style=\"width: 400px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-77577\" src=\"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/Dale-College-400x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"300\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-77577\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Dale College 1st XI Participates at Inaugural APBSA Football Festival. Photo. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/web.facebook.com\/photo\/?fbid=1185232700314151&amp;set=a.458077356363026\">Dale College on Facebook.<\/a><\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>Parktown Boys&#8217; High<\/strong> went up against the Eastern Cape&#8217;s <strong>Dale College <\/strong>and came away with a tight 1-0 win. The Johannesburg school also drew 0-0 with St Andrew&#8217;s School.<\/p>\n<p>Dale, whose football fortunes slid in 2024 after a strong season and huge improvements in 2023, is gradually regaining its footing.<\/p>\n<p>They&#8217;re part of the <strong>East London High Schools Football League<\/strong>, also known as the <strong>B-Block BWFLA High Schools Soccer League<\/strong>, where their opposition includes, among others, <strong>Selborne College<\/strong>, <strong>Stutterheim High<\/strong>, and <strong>Hudson Park High<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Following their loss to Parktown, Dale took on Grey College. A hard-fought game finished goalless, but it was a boost for the boys from Qonce.<\/p>\n<p><strong>St David&#8217;s Marist Inanda<\/strong> made a favourable impression. They kicked off their APBSA Football Festival assignments with a 3-0 win over <strong>Rondebosch Boys&#8217; High<\/strong>. They also shared a 0-0 stalemate with <strong>Potchefstroom Boys&#8217; High<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>In other matches, <strong>Rondebosch Boys&#8217; High<\/strong> and <strong>Springs Boys&#8217; High <\/strong>drew 0-0,\u00a0<strong>Pretoria Boys High<\/strong> secured a 1-0 victory over <strong>Queen&#8217;s College<\/strong>, while Queen&#8217;s College drew 0-0 draw with Springs in their second match of the day.<\/p>\n<p>Northwood snatched a 2-1 win over Paul Roos, which stood out on a day in which nine of the 14 matches ended in draws.<\/p>\n<p><strong>RESULTS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Grey College 0-0 Dale College<br \/>\nKES 0-0 Paul Roos<br \/>\nJeppe 1-1 Northwood<br \/>\nParktown Boys&#8217; High 0-0 St Andrew&#8217;s School<br \/>\nRondebosch High 0-0 Springs High<br \/>\nPretoria Boys High 1-0 Queen&#8217;s College<br \/>\nKES 1-1 Grey College<br \/>\nSt David&#8217;s 0-0 Potch Boys<br \/>\nParktown Boys&#8217; High 1-0 Dale College<br \/>\nNorthwood 2-1 Paul Roos<br \/>\nQueen&#8217;s College 0-0 Springs Boys<br \/>\nSt David&#8217;s 3-0 Rondebosch Boys&#8217; High<br \/>\nPotch Boys 0-0 Pretoria Boys High<br \/>\nJeppe 5-1 St Andrew&#8217;s School<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The inaugural Association of Public Boys&#8217; Schools of South Africa (APBSA) Football Festival kicked off at King Edward VII School (KES), in Johannesburg, on Tuesday.
