Photo: Gabrielle Swanepoel.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>Pinetown Boys&#8217; High<\/strong> and <strong>St Mary&#8217;s DSG, Kloof<\/strong>, went back-to-back as champions of the <strong>Kearsney Soccer Tournament<\/strong> on Saturday, while <strong>Ashton Ballito<\/strong> claimed the honours in the primary school competition.<\/p>\n<p>It was far from simple for Pinetown, however. They faced Gqeberha&#8217;s <strong>Urban Academy<\/strong>, with whom they had drawn goalless in the group stage, for the title, and Urban Academy hadn&#8217;t yet conceded a goal.<\/p>\n<p>Pinetown had scored more than Urban Academy on their way to the final, but they had, at least, conceded once in a 2-1 win over <strong>Glenwood High<\/strong>, a team that Urban Academy comfortably beat 3-0.<\/p>\n<p>Once more, both defences held firm and, in cold and wet conditions, the title game went down to a penalty shootout.<\/p>\n<p>Pinetown, who recently claimed the <a href=\"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/pinetown-boys-high-lifts-kloof-high-football-tournament-title\/\"><strong>Kloof High Football Tournament title<\/strong> <\/a>after a penalty shootout win over the <a href=\"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/absa-wildeklawer-has-a-new-champion-virginia-high-school\/\"><strong>Absa Wildklawer champion, Virginia High School<\/strong><\/a>, demonstrated their BMT once more, claiming victory by a 3-1 margin from the spot.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Football Final - Pinetown Boys vs Urban Academy - Kearsney Soccer Tournament - 19 July 2025\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/34kvT1E0IhY?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>In a tightly contested playoff for third, <strong>Durban High School (DHS)<\/strong>, the winners of the inaugural tournament in 2023, edged out the host, <strong>Kearsney College<\/strong>, winning 3-2.<\/p>\n<p>That was also the score in the fifth-place clash, with <strong>Siyajabula<\/strong>, the 2024 runner-up, defeating <strong>Queensburgh High<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Maqhutshana A<\/strong> scored a 2-1 win over <strong>Clifton College<\/strong> to finish seventh.<\/p>\n<p>Glenwood, who had the misfortune of having both finalists with them in Group C, cantered to victory in the Plate final, outplaying <strong>Curro Somerset West<\/strong> 5-1.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_77698\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-77698\" style=\"width: 400px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-77698\" src=\"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/football-st-marys-dsg-kloof-kearsney-190725-400x251.jpg\" alt=\"The girls' competition at the Kearsney Soccer Tournament was introduced in 2024. Photo: Gabrielle Swanepoel.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The girls&#8217; final also brought together teams that had met previously in the group stage when St Mary&#8217;s DSG, Kloof, took on <strong>Durban Girls&#8217; High<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>It had ended 1-0 in favour of <em><strong>Saints<\/strong><\/em> in their pool clash, and it finished 1-0 once more in the title decider.<\/p>\n<p>Third place went to Danville Park Girls&#8217; High who scored a 3-1 win over Curro Hazeldean.<\/p>\n<p>Ashton Ballito lifted the Plate in style, defeating Trinityhouse Rand Park Ridge 3-0.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Ashton Ballito, also, enjoyed a fairy tale run to the primary schools&#8217; title. They won all three of their group matches, beating the defending champion, <strong>Merchiston Prep<\/strong>, 3-0, <strong>Winston Park Primary<\/strong> 3-0, and <strong>Westville Senior Primary<\/strong> 4-3.<\/p>\n<p>In round two of the Championship, they rolled to a 4-0 win over <strong>John Wesley<\/strong>. That was followed by a 2-0 victory over <strong>Pelham<\/strong> in the semi-finals, and a 2-1 win over <strong>Hillcrest Primary<\/strong> in the final.
