Photo: <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/p\/ES-Media-100064706977035\/\">Enhanced Sports Media (ES MEDIA)<\/a><\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The hockey season in the Western Cape has reached its halfway point, the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/western-province-the-undisputed-champs-at-sashoc-national-week\/\">SASHOC National Weeks<\/a><\/strong> have come and gone, and the re-opening of schools means it&#8217;s time for the <strong>Cape Town International Hockey Tournament (CTIHT)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The CTIHT has featured on the province&#8217;s hockey calendar since its inception in 2003 and is hosted annually in the first week of term three.<\/p>\n<p>This year&#8217;s tournament will see 60 boys&#8217; and girls&#8217; teams battle it out for the silverware. The action kicks off on Wednesday, 23 July, before concluding with the respective finals on Sunday, 27 July.<\/p>\n<p>Six venues &#8211; the <strong>Central Hockey Club<\/strong>, <strong>Hartleyvale Stadium<\/strong> (A &amp; B), <strong>Pinelands High School<\/strong>, <strong>South African College High School<\/strong> (SACS), the <strong>University of Cape Town<\/strong> (UCT), and the <strong>Western Province Cricket Club<\/strong> (A &amp; B) &#8211; will host the jam-packed programme.<\/p>\n<p>The playing field is dominated by local sides, with a sprinkling of schools from the <strong>United Kingdom<\/strong> (UK), <strong>Zimbabwe<\/strong>,\u00a0and <b>Namibia <\/b>set to add some international spice to the event.<\/p>\n<p>Adding to the intrigue is the fact that new champions will be crowned in both the girls&#8217; and boys&#8217; sections after <strong>Paarl Gimnasium<\/strong> decided not to participate. Last year, the\u00a0Paarl Gim boys defeated a <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/paarl-gim-dethrones-sacs-wins-cape-town-international-hockey-tournament\/\">SACS Stayers team 2-1<\/a> <\/strong>in the final, while the girls thumped <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/paarl-gim-crowned-cape-town-international-hockey-tournament-girls-champs\/\">Somerset College 10-0<\/a><\/strong> to lift the trophy.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_77738\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-77738\" style=\"width: 400px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-77738\" src=\"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/Ighalo-479-400x267.jpg\" alt=\"St Paul's College will look to cause trouble for their opponents at the CTIHT. Photo: <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/p\/ES-Media-100064706977035\/\">Enhanced Sports Media (ES MEDIA)<\/a><\/strong>.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>How the tournament works<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The tournament is separated into two parts, with both the boys&#8217; and girls&#8217; events featuring &#8220;Evolve&#8221; and &#8220;Elite&#8221; sections.<\/p>\n<p>The boys have 16 teams in both sections, with the traditionally stronger sides competing in the Elite section. The girls&#8217; competition is slightly smaller, with 16 Elite teams but only 12 Evolve sides.<\/p>\n<p>Among the top challengers in the Elite section are SACS, <strong>Somerset College<\/strong>, <strong>Paarl Boys&#8217; High<\/strong>, <strong>Reddam House Constantia<\/strong>, and <strong>Parel Vallei<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Pool A includes SACS, Somerset College, <strong>Windhoek Afrikaanse Private School<\/strong>, and <strong>St George&#8217;s Weybridge<\/strong>, from Surrey, in the UK.<\/p>\n<p>SACS won the tournament in 2023, and they&#8217;ll be focused on making a strong start when they face Somerset College in the tournament&#8217;s opening game on Wednesday morning.<\/p>\n<p>Paarl Boys&#8217; High will battle it out in Pool B against <strong>Worcester Gimnasium<\/strong> and visiting sides <strong>Reed\u2019s School<\/strong>, also from Surrey, and <strong>Windhoek Gimnasium<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Parel Vallei, one of the favourites, takes on <strong>Durbanville High<\/strong>, <strong>Millfield School<\/strong>, renowned for its remarkable record of producing international sportsmen and sportswomen, and <strong>Kingston Grammar<\/strong>, which also boasts a proud hockey tradition,\u00a0in Pool C.<\/p>\n<p>Pool D will be contested by <strong>Ho\u00ebrskool Outeniqua<\/strong>, Reddam, <strong>King Edward&#8217;s School<\/strong>, from Birmingham, in the UK, and a Western Province Invitational side.<\/p>\n<p>The girls&#8217; Elite section is wide open, and it features a mouthwatering fixture list.\u00a0Several teams will fancy their chances in the absence of Paarl Gim, including their great rivals, <strong>Paarl Girls&#8217; High<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Coach <strong>Marc Landman<\/strong>&#8216;s girls are drawn in Pool D where they&#8217;ll take on Zimbabwe&#8217;s <strong>Chisipite<\/strong>, <strong>Durbanville High<\/strong>, and <strong>Ho\u00ebrskool Bellville<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_77739\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-77739\" style=\"width: 400px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-77739\" src=\"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/CTIHT-Day2-RayChaplin-214-400x266.jpg\" alt=\"Photo: Enhanced Sports Media (ES MEDIA)\" width=\"400\" height=\"266\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-77739\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo: <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/p\/ES-Media-100064706977035\/\">Enhanced Sports Media (ES MEDIA)<\/a><\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>Reddam House Constantia,<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>HMS La Rochelle<\/strong>, and Worcester Gimnasium will tackle <strong>St Paul&#8217;s College<\/strong>, from Windhoek, in Pool A.<\/p>\n<p>St Paul\u2019s is one of the sides to keep an eye on after they impressed at the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/girls-st-pauls-aims-for-belgotex-sport-easter-hockey-tournament-history\/\">Belgotex Easter Hockey Tournament<\/a><\/strong> earlier this year.<\/p>\n<p>Pool B will be contested by Ho\u00ebrskool Outeniqua, Somerset College, Millfield, and Windhoek Afrikaanse Private School.<\/p>\n<p>Parel Vallei shares Pool C with <strong>Curro Durbanville<\/strong>, Kingston Grammar, and <strong>Windhoek High School<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Past editions of the tournament have been disrupted by bad weather and heavy rain, but the forecast looks promising, and spectators should be able to witness a full week of hockey.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">You can catch the action <strong>LIVE<\/strong> on the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/supersportschools.com\/\">SuperSport Schools App<\/a><\/strong> and follow <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/SchoolofHockey\">SuperSport Schools Hockey<\/a><\/strong> for all the updates.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Click <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/pure-travel.co.za\/youth\/tournaments\/cape-town-international-hockey-tournament\/fixtures\/?utm_source=meta&amp;utm_medium=organic-social+&amp;utm_campaign=pure-travel_cape-town-international-hockey-tournament.fixtures_organic-social&amp;utm_id=pure-travel_cape-town-international-hockey-tournament.fixtures_organic-social&amp;utm_term=pure-travel_cape-town-international-hockey-tournament.fixtures_organic-social&amp;utm_content=pure-travel_cape-town-international-hockey-tournament.fixtures&amp;fbclid=IwY2xjawLp7L1leHRuA2FlbQIxMABicmlkETFhTzdjeDZtVWIxWmFFejlzAR4mL2HRnkNrjorwxch-184EFaFxjGxfU18-J8hcMUhG1zVZPNKYb4lucjH2lA_aem_tGODxypZlG-BuXTlf-dQwg\">HERE<\/a> <\/strong>to see all the tournament fixtures.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The hockey season in the Western Cape has reached its halfway point, the SASHOC National Weeks have come and gone, and the re-opening of schools means it&#8217;s time for the Cape Town International Hockey Tournament (CTIHT).
