South African College High School<\/strong> (SACS)<\/strong> and Paarl Boys’ High<\/strong> recorded two wins each on Wednesday, day one of the Cape Town International Hockey Tournament<\/a><\/strong>, in the Mother City.<\/p>\n

As a result, the two Western Cape outfits finished the day sitting atop Pools A and B, respectively, in the Elite section, with one group fixture awaiting them on day two.<\/p>\n

SACS began their title challenge with an emphatic 6-0 victory over Somerset College<\/strong> in the opening game of the tournament.<\/p>\n

After a slow start, the boys from Newlands upped their intensity and rushed into a 3-0 lead, courtesy of a Litha Kraai<\/strong> brace and a strike by Mohlodi Maseko<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Maseko, then, added two more goals to his tally before Josh Goulding<\/strong> made it six. Somerset put up a fight despite the scoreline, and Buhle Mfunelwa<\/strong> was their standout player.<\/p>\n

Both sides were in action again later in the day. SACS took on St George’s Weybridge<\/strong> and claimed a 6-3 victory over the United Kingdom (UK) visitors, with Kraai (3), Goulding (2), and Maseko on the scoresheet once again. Sam Geering<\/strong>, Adam Franks<\/strong>, and Sam Wood<\/strong> netted for the visitors.<\/p>\n

Somerset, meanwhile, drew 1-1 with Windhoek Afrikaanse<\/strong>, and it was Mfunelwa who found the back of the net.<\/p>\n

Paarl Boys’ High leads Pool B after picking up successive 3-0 wins over Worcester Gimnasium<\/strong> and Reed’s School<\/strong>, another of the UK participants, in their day one fixtures.<\/p>\n

Against Worcester, Nicholas Swanepoel<\/strong>, AJ Fourie<\/strong>, and Jamie Kock<\/strong> found the back of the net for coach Rowan McLachlan<\/strong>‘s side. Later in the day, Martin de Bruyn<\/strong>, Ullrich Drotschie<\/strong>, and Fourie netted as Boishaai<\/strong><\/em> finished their assignments with maximum points.<\/p>\n

Reed\u2019s School sits in second place with three points after defeating Windhoek High School<\/strong> 4-2.<\/p>\n

Pool C was dominated by Durbanville High School<\/strong> and Parel Vallei<\/strong> (PV).<\/p>\n

Both sides have four points after sharing a thrilling 1-1 draw before winning their other game on the opening day.<\/p>\n

In their showdown, Nathan Nissen<\/strong> netted for PV before Christopher Dunthorne<\/strong> levelled for the Durbanville boys.<\/p>\n

PV, then, went on to beat Kingston Grammar<\/strong> 3-0, with Luca Jordan<\/strong>, Tristan Rautenbach<\/strong>, and Sashin Pillay<\/strong> finding the back of the net.<\/p>\n

Durbanville, meanwhile, slotted four past Millfield School<\/strong>, with Dunthorne, Nicholas Coetzee<\/strong>, Elandre Pienaar<\/strong>, and Hugo Bredell <\/strong>finding the target.<\/p>\n

Reddam House Constantia<\/strong> and King Edward\u2019s School<\/strong>, from Birmingham, lead the charge in Pool D with four and three points, respectively.<\/p>\n

Reddam made a slow start and drew 2-2 with Ho\u00ebrskool Outeniqua<\/strong> in their opening match. In their second game, they claimed a narrow 2-1 win over\u00a0King Edward’s, thanks to strikes by Christopher Stewart<\/strong> and Max Godden<\/strong>, while Arnav Parekh<\/strong> netted for the visitors.<\/p>\n

The Western Province Invitational<\/strong> side occupies third place, with three points, after a 2-1 win over Outeniqua. Buhle Kama<\/strong> and Nezo Shoko<\/strong> scored for the invitational side before Outeniqua pulled one back through Danny Busse.<\/p>\n

The Evolve section was also dominated by local teams, who produced some impressive results on the opening day.<\/p>\n

Hermanus High School<\/strong> and Brackenfell<\/strong> lead Pool A, while Bridge House<\/strong> and Curro Durbanville<\/strong> are cruising in Pool B.<\/p>\n

In Pool C, Edgemead<\/strong> and Bellville <\/strong>are battling for the top spot, while St Paul’s College<\/strong> and HTS Drostdy<\/strong> lead the way in Pool D.<\/p>\n

The knockout stages commence on day two, following the conclusion of the group stage fixtures.<\/p>\n
