Oakdale Landbou<\/strong> was superb in a 31-7 home victory over HTS Drostdy<\/strong> on Saturday in Cradock, led by\u00a0SA Schools<\/strong> A<\/strong> centre Christiaan Vorster<\/strong>, who enjoyed an excellent outing and scored two tries for his team.<\/p>\n

The Farmers<\/strong><\/em> opened the scoring in the seventh minute from a lineout on the visitors’ five-metre line.<\/p>\n

After receiving the ball from the resulting maul, scrumhalf Jandrian Goosen<\/strong> attempted to burst through a gap. He was stopped, but Vorster, alert, quickly snatched up the ball and raced over for the opening try. Flyhalf CT Vosloo<\/strong> added the extras.<\/p>\n

After going down 0-12 within the first 15 minutes, the visitors frustrated Oakdale with their committed defending, which prevented the hosts from adding to their tally before the break. In fact, neither side scored a point for 37 minutes (over half the length of the match), between the 15th and 52nd minutes.<\/p>\n

Then, a clean lineout take by Liam Lightley, just five metres out from the Drostdy try line, opened up a path for Adrian<\/strong> Smit <\/strong>to dive in the right-hand corner. Vosloo missed the difficult corner conversion.<\/p>\n

Drostdy’s sole try of the match in the 63rd minute was one they thoroughly deserved.\u00a0The try-scoring sequence began when Oakdale lost possession of the ball inside their own 22.<\/p>\n

Outside centre Abdul Fisher<\/strong> attempted an intercept but knocked the ball backwards.\u00a0Then, the Donkeys<\/strong><\/em> took possession of the ball off the floor before going into contact. After a quick ruck, the visitors struck with a sharp counterattack, with Pirlo Baron<\/strong> outflanking Oakdale on the left to cross for five points. Flyhalf Jano van<\/strong> Deventer<\/strong> was on the money with his conversion attempt.<\/p>\n

Oakdale <\/b>was excellent in their set-pieces. Each of their five tries were scored within two phases after a set-piece, and three of those were scored from lineouts. The other two came from possession in their scrum, and a quick tap.<\/p>\n

Next Saturday, Drostdy travels to Rondebosch<\/strong>, while Oakdale hosts Paul Roos Gimnasium<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
