\"\"The competition at the top of the Gauteng Development League (GDL)<\/strong> is intensifying, and the past weekend was no exception.<\/p>\n

One team, though, has particularly attracted the attention of spectators lately, despite being in a mid-table position.\u00a0 Kathorus Hyper Academy<\/strong> has recently gained a reputation as a giant slayer and has recently taken points off of, among others, Mamelodi Sundowns<\/strong> and the Gauteng Engen Knockout Challenge champions<\/strong>, Panorama FC<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n

Whatever they’re doing is working and Kathorus Hyper Academy appears to be a team in full swing in recent weeks. On Saturday, at Huntersfield Stadium<\/strong>, TS Galaxy<\/strong> became the latest team to fall foul of Kathorus, who scored a narrow 1-0 victory.<\/p>\n

Mojalefe Nyelele<\/strong> scored the game winner to help Kathorus add another three points to their tally.<\/p>\n

Kaizer Chiefs<\/strong> showcased moments of brilliance at home against the School of Excellence <\/strong>in a 4-1 victory. Gift Phoku<\/strong> was in excellent form, scoring two goals for the Glamour Boys<\/strong><\/em>, while Andile Mtsweni<\/strong> and Karabo Ntsala<\/strong> also made it onto the score sheet as Chiefs overwhelmed the visitors.<\/p>\n

At Curro Sagewood<\/strong>, SuperSport United<\/strong> and Seven’s Academy<\/strong> clashed in an exciting and fiercely contested match, which ended in a 2-1 victory for the Tshwane side, with Samkelo Ngongeni<\/strong> and Orifha Maubelo<\/strong> netting the decisive goals for SuperSport United, while Levaan Rose<\/strong> slotted a consolation goal for Seven’s Academy.<\/p>\n

Wits Junior<\/strong> bagged a big win on Saturday, defeating Tuks<\/strong> 4-1, while Joburg City<\/strong> and Elspark United<\/strong> picked up a point each after a 2-2 draw. The two-time defending champion, Highlands Park<\/strong>, who are in the running for a three-peat, intensified their pursuit of the title with another win, beating league newcomers, Rockefvs<\/strong>, 2-0.<\/p>\n

On Sunday, the GDL action shifted to Randburg, where Randburg AFC<\/strong> faced off against Remember Elite Sport Academy (RESA)<\/strong>. With both teams among the top five contenders, there was plenty on the line, and it was the visitors, RESA, who claimed a hard-fought win, edging out Randburg 2-1, thanks to goals from Onthatile Lemao<\/strong> and Tshepo Mofaladi<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
