Photo: Brad Morgan.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>BOYS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Contesting the <strong>Kearsney Hockey 5s, presented by Belgotex Sport<\/strong>, for the first time, <strong>Durban High School<\/strong> <strong>(DHS)<\/strong> took to the game like a duck to water, going unbeaten through pool play before downing Michaelhouse in the final to lift the trophy.<\/p>\n<p>Skilful and creative, <em><strong>School<\/strong> <\/em>looked as if they were experienced competitors in the Youth Olympics&#8217; format. They were effective at creating space and finished well.<\/p>\n<p>However, they found the going tougher on Saturday than on Friday, which had brought them five wins. Twice, DHS won in a shootout, after drawing 3-3 with <strong>Garsfontein<\/strong>, and then 3-3 with Michaelhouse in the final.<\/p>\n<p>In a key game on day two, Michaelhouse and Garsfontein met in what was effectively a semi-final showdown, and it was &#8216;<em><strong>House<\/strong><\/em> who rose to the challenge, controlling the contest by owning the majority of possession.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Thandanani Zuma<\/strong> scored a couple of stunners to put Michaelhouse into a 2-0 lead before Garsfontein replied late in the second half to give themselves some hope of rescuing a draw. Photo: Brad Morgan.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>GIRLS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>St Mary&#8217;s DSG, Kloof<\/strong>, dominated, the girls&#8217; competition. They produced a clean record and won 4-1 against <strong>Maris Stella<\/strong> in the girls&#8217; final after beating the same team 7-2 earlier in the day.<\/p>\n<p>In 2024, <em><strong>Saints<\/strong> <\/em>beat <strong>Danville Park<\/strong> 5-1 in pool play but then went down to Danville after a shootout in the final. They didn&#8217;t allow a similar upset to happen again.
