Photo: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/photo\/?fbid=1219300276908939&amp;set=pcb.1219304300241870\"><strong>St Andrew&#8217;s College on Facebook.<\/strong><\/a><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>After three days of captivating football at the <strong>St Andrew&#8217;s College Football Cup<\/strong>, in Makhanda, <strong>Bishops Diocesan College<\/strong> lifted the trophy after defeating <strong>Curro Wilgeheuwel<\/strong> in a penalty shootout in the final.<\/p>\n<p>Both teams performed impressively in the group phase, played on Friday and Saturday, to finish atop their groups and secure their places in the title game.<\/p>\n<p>It was a tight contest, finishing goalless, but when it went down to a shootout, Bishops excelled from the spot, scoring a decisive 3-0 win.<\/p>\n<p>The Cape Town school enjoyed a superb showing at the tournament, picking up six wins and one draw from their seven matches. Only the <strong>St Andrew&#8217;s College B Team<\/strong>, who snared a 1-1 draw, stopped Bishops from attaining a perfect record.<\/p>\n<p>Finishing as the runner-up was an outstanding but disappointing outcome for Curro Wilgeheuwel, of Roodepoort, after they showcased some dazzling and dominant football in Makhanda, which was highlighted by an astonishing <a href=\"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/its-championship-sunday-at-st-andrews-college-football-cup\/\"><strong>15-0 victory<\/strong><\/a> over <strong>Kingswood College<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_82084\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-82084\" style=\"width: 400px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-82084\" src=\"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/u15-Jeppe-Football-team-400x267.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"267\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-82084\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The u15 champions of the St Andrew&#8217;s College Football Cup, Jeppe High School for Boys. Photo: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/photo?fbid=1219300206908946&amp;set=pcb.1219304300241870\"><strong>St Andrew&#8217;s College on Facebook.<\/strong><\/a><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>When they needed it most, unfortunately for Curro Wilgeheuwel, their shooting deserted them as they missed three critical penalties, while the sharp shooters from Bishops converted their opportunities.<\/p>\n<p>It marked the second time this season that Curro Wilgeheuwel had come up short in a title game. At the end of June, at the <a href=\"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/pmss-coach-tshepo-boee-raves-about-waterstone-super-cup\/\"><strong>Waterstone College Super Cup<\/strong><\/a><strong>, <\/strong>they fell 1-2 to <strong>Curro Thatchfield<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>In the u15 section of the St Andrew&#8217;s College Football Cup, <strong>Jeppe High School for Boys<\/strong> scored a 2-1 victory over Bishops in a fiercely contested and entertaining final.<\/p>\n<p>After the tournament concluded, St Andrew&#8217;s College utilised its social media platform to express heartfelt thanks to every school that participated in the event.
