Photo: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/StAnnesDiocesanCollege\"><strong>St Anne&#8217;s Diocesan College on Facebook<\/strong><\/a>.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>There was plenty of action across the country over the past week and weekend, with a couple of trophies on the line in KwaZulu-Natal.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Girls&#8217; Football\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Howick High<\/strong> hosted the third edition of the <strong>Midlands Cup<\/strong>, and it was <strong>St Anne&#8217;s Diocesan College<\/strong>, <a href=\"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/st-annes-umthoqotho-high-excel-at-riverwood-aquelle-soccer-festival\/\"><strong>the winner of the Riverwood College aQuell\u00e9 Soccer Festival<\/strong><\/a> in July, who added another trophy to their cabinet.<\/p>\n<p>At Riverwood, they edged out <strong>Pietermaritzburg Girls&#8217; High<\/strong> in a shootout in the final. At Howick, they scored a tight 1-0 win over the same opposition in the title game.<\/p>\n<p>St Anne&#8217;s delivered resilient and focused performances, and they were exceptionally sharp in the group stage, banging home 17 goals before moving on to the semifinals.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/live.supersportschools.com\/events\/68b32671163d180de9ae672a\/\"><strong>Rewatch the U19 Girls Midlands Cup final featuring St Anne&#8217;s Diocesan and Pietermaritzburg Girls&#8217; High.<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>There, they withstood a tough challenge from <strong>Kloof High<\/strong>, gritting their way to a 1-0 win to earn a place in the championship match.<\/p>\n<p>Girls&#8217; High, meanwhile, had an easier time in their semifinal, defeating <strong>Ixopo Secondary School<\/strong> 3-0 to make it into the final.<\/p>\n<p>There was little to separate the teams, but St Anne&#8217;s, scored an all-important goal to come away with the win.<\/p>\n<p>After an exceptional tournament, St Anne&#8217;s <strong>Tana Roques<\/strong> was awarded the <strong>Golden Boot<\/strong> for netting seven goals to help her team to the title.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_67585\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-67585\" style=\"width: 400px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-67585\" src=\"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Musa-Mnisi-18-03-25-400x421.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"421\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-67585\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Musa Mnisi. Photo. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/StAnnesDiocesanCollege\"><strong>St Anne&#8217;s Diocesan College on Facebook<\/strong><\/a>.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>India Dalrymple<\/strong>, also of St Anne&#8217;s,\u00a0was named the <strong>Goalkeeper of the Tournament<\/strong>, while the tournament winners also had <strong>Musa Mnisi<\/strong> and <strong>Alexandra Bizarre<\/strong> named in the <strong>Team of the Tournament<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>At just 17 years old, Mnisi is an exciting, emerging talent, who signed a professional contract earlier this year with <strong>Durban Ladies FC<\/strong> in the <strong>SAFA Women&#8217;s Super League<\/strong>, which is South Africa&#8217;s top women&#8217;s football league.<\/p>\n<p>The runner-up, Pietermaritzburg Girls&#8217; High, had five players &#8211; <strong>Nyaniso Khoza<\/strong>, <strong>Athi Radebe<\/strong>, <strong>Grace Shwala<\/strong>, <strong>Amile Nxumalo<\/strong>, and <strong>Akhona Hlophe\u00a0<\/strong>&#8211; named in the Team of the Tournament. Hlophe was also named the <strong>Player of the Tournament<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The Midlands Cup featured 16 teams from the Midlands area, including sides from Ixopo and Greytown.<\/p>\n<p>In Mpumalanga, in a derby battle, <strong>Penryn College<\/strong> recorded a 2-0 win over <strong>Uplands College<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Boys&#8217; Football<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>On Saturday, in Pietermaritzburg, <strong>Durban High School (DHS)<\/strong> took on <strong>Maritzburg College<\/strong> on <strong>Barns Field<\/strong>, with the <strong>Raw Cup<\/strong> on the line. College held the trophy after a spectacular showdown in 2024, which finished 4-4 and then was decided in a penalty shootout, which went 4-2 in favour of the <strong><em>Red, Black, and White.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_82182\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-82182\" style=\"width: 400px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-82182 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/Durban-High-School-1-400x266.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"266\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-82182\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">In a fiercely contested match, DHS secured the Raw Cup with a hard-fought 3-2 victory over Maritzburg College. At one point, it appeared that DHS was on their way to a routine victory after they took a 2-0 lead by capitalising on College&#8217;s mistakes.<\/p>\n<p>However, College is renowned for being tenacious and they showed why they were crowned the champion of the <a href=\"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/maritzburg-college-crowned-kzn-inland-a-league-champion\/\"><strong>KZNHSFA Inland A-League<\/strong><\/a> in the second term by striking back to level the match.<\/p>\n<p>A late goal, though, won it for DHS, and with that the trophy swopped hands.<\/p>\n<p>In another exciting match, <strong>Glenwood High<\/strong> took on the <a href=\"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/hilton-college-hoists-primo-big-10-trophy\/\"><strong>2025 Primo Big 10 champions<\/strong>, <strong>Hilton College<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Every year, Glenwood hosts a floating trophy match to pay tribute to the South African football legend and <strong>Glenwood Old Boy<\/strong>, <a href=\"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/clive-barker-festival-glenwood-honours-south-african-icon-and-old-boy\/\"><strong>Clive Barker<\/strong><\/a>. This year, the visitors were Hilton, who had succeeded the <em><strong>Green Machine<\/strong><\/em> as the Primo Big 10 champions.<\/p>\n<p>The event also included an inspiring talk from <strong>Jes Foord<\/strong>, of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jff.org.za\/\"><strong>Jes Foord Foundation<\/strong><\/a>, which empowers rape survivors through awareness, education and support.<\/p>\n<p>On <strong>Dixon&#8217;s Field<\/strong>, a closely contested battle finished goalless, but Glenwood triumphed 5-3 from the penalty spot to honour the legacy of &#8220;<em><strong>The Dog<\/strong><\/em>&#8220;.<\/p>\n<p>Clive Barker&#8217;s legacy at the school also lives on in the <strong>u16 Clive Barker Festival<\/strong>, which was introduced in June and won by <a href=\"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/pinetown-boys-high-wins-inaugural-clive-barker-festival\/\"><strong>Pinetown Boys&#8217; High<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_82186\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-82186\" style=\"width: 400px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-82186\" src=\"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/Glenwood-400x267.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"267\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-82186\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Mbuso Gumede, a promising talent from Glenwood High, prepares to take a free kick against Hilton College. Photo: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/glenwoodhighschool\"><strong>Glenwood High on Facebook<\/strong>.<\/a><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>In Pietermaritzburg, <a href=\"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/football-fever-st-charles-northwood-jeppe-selborne-college-lead-the-charge\/\"><strong>St Charles College<\/strong><\/a> followed up on a 1-0 win over <strong>Maritzburg College<\/strong> with another 1-0 victory, this time over <strong>Clifton College<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Northwood<\/strong> bagged a 2-1 victory over <strong>Michaelhouse<\/strong> to continue to build on an impressive run, while <strong>Alexandra High<\/strong> defeated <strong>Ixopo<\/strong> 2-1, and <strong>Kloof High<\/strong> also scored a 2-1 win when they met <strong>Kingsway High School<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s been a challenging third term for the champion of the <a href=\"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/westville-boys-lifts-kznhsfa-coastal-a-league-title\/\"><strong>KZNHSFA Coastal A-League, Westville Boys&#8217; High<\/strong><\/a>, who were eliminated from the last 16 of the <a href=\"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/favourites-shocked-in-mancosa-cowie-cup-last-16\/\"><strong>Mancosa KZNHSFA Cowie Cup<\/strong><\/a> last week by Alexandra High, which was followed by a 1-2 loss to Northwood on 22 August.<\/p>\n<p>On Saturday, they had to come from behind twice to earn a 2-2 draw with <strong>Kearsney College<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>East London High Schools Football League<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In the<strong> B Block of the BWFLA High Schools League,<\/strong> also known as the <strong>East London High Schools Football League,<\/strong> <strong>Dale College<\/strong> picked up a 2-0 victory over <strong>George Randell High <\/strong>on Tuesday. Photo: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/JeppeBoys\"><strong>Jeppe High School for Boys on Facebook<\/strong><\/a>.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>On Friday, <strong>Cathcart High<\/strong> delivered an impressive performance against George Randell High, winning 5-1, while Dale College ran out 3-0 winners over <strong>Merrifield College<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>In the Western Cape, <strong>Bishops Diocesan College<\/strong> claimed the<a href=\"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/bishops-lifts-st-andrews-college-football-cup-jeppe-the-junior-champs\/\"> <strong>St Andrew&#8217;s College Football<\/strong><\/a> title on Sunday.
