The Gauteng Women’s Development League (GWDL) <\/strong>is nearing its conclusion, and, on Sunday, another opportunity presents itself for teams to enhance their challenges.<\/p>\n

The u17 Mamelodi Sundowns<\/strong> team is on the precipice of another GWDL title after increasing their advantage at the top to seven points over the second-placed SAFA Academy <\/strong>following a shock 2-3 setback last weekend for SAFA Academy against Refilwe FC<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n

On Sunday, while the SAFA Academy went down, Banyana Ba Style<\/strong><\/em> cruised to an impressive 7-0 victory in a derby match against the University of Pretoria (Tuks)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Sundowns have exceptional in front of goal in their 2025 campaign, netting an extraordinary 156 times while conceding only 19 goals. This Sunday, they continue their charge towards the title with a clash against Remember Elite Sport Academy (RESA)<\/strong>, at President Park<\/strong>, in Vereeniging.<\/p>\n

While the Brazilians<\/strong><\/em> are top of the table, RESA is in fifth place, but it’s arguably a bigger game for them than ‘Downs<\/strong><\/em>. That’s because RESA has seen a decline in their fortunes in recent outings.<\/p>\n

Last Sunday, they went down 0-3 against Panorama FC<\/strong>. The week before that, they were beaten 2-0 by the SAFA Academy. If RESA was to lose against Sundowns, that would make it three losses in succession. That loss of momentum could be difficult to reverse.<\/p>\n

Sundowns, meanwhile, will be invigorated after their big derby victory over Tuks, especially since SAFA Academy fell a further three points off the pace on the same weekend.<\/p>\n

An intriguing clash awaits at the University of Pretoria Football Fields – Hillcrest Campus <\/strong>this weekend, where SAFA Academy takes on Panorama FC.<\/p>\n

It’ll be a contest that will test both sides. For SAFA Academy, nothing less than a win will do as they attempt to reignite their title challenge. Panorama will head into the game buoyed and confident after their recent win over RESA.<\/p>\n

Refilwe FC, fresh off their 3-2 victory over the SAFA Academy, will host JVW FC<\/strong> at Curro Hazeldean<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

JVW heads into the game having edged out Edenvale FC <\/strong>1-0 last time out. With both JVW and Refilwe on song, it’s one of the more compelling matches of the weekend.<\/p>\n

Tuks will seek to recover from their heavy defeat against Sundowns when they tackle Kempton Park<\/strong>, who enjoyed a 6-1 win over Dinoko Rondebult<\/strong> in their most recent outing.<\/p>\n

Edenvale takes on Hellenic Falcons<\/strong> at the JP Bezuidenhout Stadium<\/strong>, while Dinoko Rondebult welcomes Highlands Park<\/strong> to Dan Kutumela School<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
