{"id":82824,"date":"2025-09-16T11:41:29","date_gmt":"2025-09-16T09:41:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/?p=82824"},"modified":"2025-09-16T11:41:29","modified_gmt":"2025-09-16T09:41:29","slug":"highlands-park-wins-and-extends-gdl-lead-as-results-go-their-way","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/test.ssschoolsplus.co.za\/?p=82824","title":{"rendered":"Highlands Park wins and extends GDL lead as results go their way"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-83012\" src=\"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/football-gauteng-development-league-400x400.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"400\" \/>The two-time defending champion, <strong>Highlands Park<\/strong>, bathed in the spotlight of the <strong>Gauteng Development League (GDL)<\/strong> on the weekend, powering their way to a 3-0 victory in an away game against <strong>Kaizer Chiefs<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, <strong>Randburg AFC<\/strong>&#8216;s title challenge faltered when they dropped points against <strong>Seven&#8217;s Academy<\/strong>, while <strong>Kathorus Hyper Academy<\/strong> maintained their impressive run with a convincing win over <strong>Joburg City<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>On Sunday, in the key match of the GDL weekend, at <strong>Kaizer Chiefs Village<\/strong> in Naturena, the league leaders Highlands Park delivered a terrific performance to grab a 3-0 victory over the <em><strong>Phefeni Glamour Boys<\/strong>.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Siphesihle Nyawo<\/strong> opened the scoring for the <em><strong>Lions of the North<\/strong><\/em>, with <strong>Thabiso Mkhwanazi <\/strong>making it 2-0, and <strong>Naledi Manamela<\/strong> completing the scoring in a resounding victory on the road.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Football - Kaizer Chiefs vs Highlands Park - Gauteng Development League - 14 September 2025\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/umIrkakzIio?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>That win enabled Highlands Park to increase their advantage at the top of the standings after the match between <strong>Mamelodi Sundowns<\/strong> and <strong>Jomo Cosmos<\/strong> was postponed. While Randburg AFC lost a seven-goal thriller against Seven&#8217;s Academy, <strong>SuperSport United<\/strong> had to settle for a 0-0 draw against <strong>Panorama FC<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Not only did Highlands Park win, but other results went their way, too.<\/p>\n<p>In their match against Seven&#8217;s Academy, Randburg fell 3-4. <strong>Leevan Rose<\/strong> gave Seven&#8217;s Academy the lead, with <strong>Asithandile Took<\/strong> scoring their second and <strong>Sihle Gumede<\/strong> their third. An own goal, from a deflection off a Randburg defender following a cross from <strong>Teddy Qampi<\/strong>, meant Seven&#8217;s Academy claimed the three points on offer.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Remember Elite Sport Academy (RESA), <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/highlands-park-wins-twice-against-pretoria-clubs-tops-table\/\"><strong>1-3 losers at Mamelodi Sundowns<\/strong><\/a> last Sunday at <strong>Clapham High<\/strong>, took on an in-form <strong>University of Pretoria (Tuks)<\/strong> team and lifted their game to come away with a 2-0 victory. <strong>Kabelo Mofokeng<\/strong> gave RESA a 1-0 lead at the break, and <strong>Mandla<\/strong> <strong>Vilakati<\/strong> struck in the second half.<\/p>\n<p>Kathorus Hyper Academy defeated Joburg City 3-0 on Saturday, which lifted Kathorus up to eighth in the standings.
