Photo: <strong>Christo van Deventer<\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>Jeppe High School for Boys<\/strong> will bid farewell to their very successful first-team hockey coach <strong>Siya Sityana<\/strong> at the end of the year.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/hockey\/\">SuperSport Schools Plus<\/a><\/strong> understands that Sityana will be leaving the Kensington school to join their fierce rivals,<strong> King Edward VII School<\/strong> <strong>(KES)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>While it&#8217;s yet to be confirmed, the former <strong>Dale College<\/strong> pupil is expected to assume the <em><strong>Red Sticks<\/strong><\/em>&#8216; head coach role, taking over from the experienced <strong>Sharmin Naidoo<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The unexpected move will come as a shock to many hockey enthusiasts, not only in the Gauteng region but across the country, considering the outstanding season <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/jeppe-boys-achieve-rare-unbeaten-season\/\">Jeppe enjoyed under his tutelage in 2025<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The 30-year-old began his tenure with the Jeppe 1st XI in 2024 when he replaced <strong>Gilbert De Villiers<\/strong>, who moved to <strong>St John&#8217;s College<\/strong>. Next year, De Villiers will be on his way to <strong>Maritzburg College<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>His first season in charge didn&#8217;t go smoothly, with Sityana undergoing a baptism of fire. The side&#8217;s results were somewhat inconsistent, but he led Jeppe to some famous victories, which included lifting the<strong> Aitken Cup<\/strong> after <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/jeppe-captures-the-2024-aitken-cup\/\">a 2-0 win over Parktown Boys&#8217; High<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0in the final.<\/p>\n<p>It was during the 2025 season that Sityana came into his own as the coach of Jeppe, leading the school, long recognised one of the leading hockey-playing schools in the country, to one of its best seasons ever.<\/p>\n<p>Under his tutelage, they played 31 matches, won 29 and drew only two, against <strong>Hilton College<\/strong> and <strong>Grey College,<\/strong> at the <strong>Nomads Hockey Festival<\/strong> in March.<\/p>\n<p>He also led the side to victory in the Aitken Cup, with Jeppe claiming the silverware after a 4-2 win over <strong>St Stithians College <\/strong>4-2 in the final.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_84195\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-84195\" style=\"width: 400px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-84195\" src=\"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Siya-7-400x263.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"263\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-84195\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo: Supplied<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>To cap off an incredible season, he directed the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/southerns-hammer-eastern-province-to-lift-u16-boys-title\/\">Southern Gauteng u16A boys to gold at the SASHOC National Week<\/a><\/strong> in July. Their title-winning run ended with a one-sided thumping of <strong>Eastern Province<\/strong> in the final.<\/p>\n<p>He wasn&#8217;t done yet, however. A month later, Sityana aided the <strong>SA u16B<\/strong> side to an unbeaten run against Zimbabwe during the<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/cilliers-shines-as-sa-u16-boys-breeze-past-zimbabwe\/\"> Allistar Fredericks Africa Challenge<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>His outstanding contributions were recognised when he was named the <strong>Boys&#8217; Coach of the Year<\/strong> at the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/the-cream-of-the-crop-honoured-at-the-hockey-on-216-awards\/\">Hyundai Hockey on 216<\/a><\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/the-cream-of-the-crop-honoured-at-the-hockey-on-216-awards\/\"><strong> Awards<\/strong><\/a>. Jeppe was, furthermore, nominated for the Team of the Year Award.<\/p>\n<p>Sityana will undoubtedly add value to KES as they seek to improve their hockey programme and become a greater force in the schoolboy game.<\/p>\n<p>His successor is yet to be confirmed, but SuperSport Schools Plus understands that an announcement from Jeppe is imminent.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Jeppe High School for Boys will bid farewell to their very successful first-team hockey coach Siya Sityana at the end of the year.
