{"id":84437,"date":"2025-10-07T07:05:01","date_gmt":"2025-10-07T05:05:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/?p=84437"},"modified":"2025-10-07T07:05:01","modified_gmt":"2025-10-07T05:05:01","slug":"new-nedbank-grey-college-soccer-tournament-champion-to-be-crowned","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/test.ssschoolsplus.co.za\/?p=84437","title":{"rendered":"New Nedbank Grey College Soccer Tournament champion to be crowned"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-84480\" src=\"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/football-primo-071025-400x321.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"321\" \/>Monday, the third day of the <strong>Nedbank Grey College Soccer Tournament, <\/strong>continued to deliver exciting cut-and-thrust football, which also resulted in the end of a quest by <strong>St Stithians College<\/strong> for a third successive title at the prestigious event<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/live.supersportschools.com\/category\/606f65f91eea03755e56797c\/sub-category\/68da2e8185ac22b54c083155\/\"><strong>Catch the action LIVE on SuperSport Schools<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Bowl Competition<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The action kicked off with the Bowl quarterfinals, featuring the teams that finished in fifth and sixth places within their respective groups.<\/p>\n<p><strong> Glenwood High<\/strong>, despite not having a particularly good year, especially based on the high standards they have set in recent seasons, found themselves part of the Bowl and up against a familiar foe, taking on Durban High School (DHS), who had showed their off their potential in a <a href=\"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/st-annes-wins-second-trophy-of-2025-glenwood-does-clive-barker-proud\/\"><strong>Raw Cup win<\/strong><\/a> at the end of August, in which they beat the <a href=\"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/maritzburg-college-crowned-kzn-inland-a-league-champion\/#:~:text=Maritzburg%20College%20has%2C%20once%20again,lay%20claim%20to%20the%20silverware.\"><strong>KZNHSFA Inland A-League champions Maritzburg College<\/strong><\/a> 3-2. Glenwood, though, had <em><strong>the Horseflies<\/strong><\/em>&#8216; number and recorded a 3-1 win.<\/p>\n<p><strong>King Edward VII School (KES)<\/strong> faced one of the Eastern Cape&#8217;s leading teams, <strong>Victoria Park<\/strong> High, and dealt with the challenge with aplomb, beating the Gqeberha school 3-0.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Strelitzia High,<\/strong> from Kariega, scored a 2-0 win over <strong>Witbank High<\/strong>, while in a meeting of local sides, <strong>Bloemfontein South High<\/strong> took on <strong>St Andrew&#8217;s School<\/strong>, with the former delivering an outstanding performance to run out 4-1 winners.<\/p>\n<p>They followed up that victory with a 2-1 win over Glenwood in the semi-finals. Strelitzia, meanwhile, handed KES a 2-0 defeat.<\/p>\n<p>The Bowl final, between Bloemfontein South and Strelitzia, kicks off on Tuesday at 08:00. KES and Glenwood will meet at the same time.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Plate Competition<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Plate competition, for teams which finished in third and fourth places in their groups, featured <strong>St David&#8217;s Marist Inanda<\/strong>, who recently won a big title on home soil, the <a href=\"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/st-davids-marist-inanda-keeps-nedbank-challenge-cup-trophy-at-home\/\"><strong>St David&#8217;s Nedbank Challenge Cup<\/strong><\/a>. They took on Bloemfontein&#8217;s Brebner High.<\/p>\n<p>A high-scoring stalemate ended 3-3, but St David&#8217;s kept their composure during the penalty shootout to advance 4-3 from the spot.<\/p>\n<p>In other Plate quarterfinal matches, the <a href=\"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/pmss-coach-tshepo-boee-raves-about-waterstone-super-cup\/\"><strong>Waterstone College Super Cup winners, Curro Thatchfield<\/strong><\/a>, played out a 1-1 draw with <strong>Pretoria Boys High<\/strong>, but Boys High moved on after a heart-stopping 5-4 win on penalties.<\/p>\n<p>In a clash of traditional Johannesburg rivals, <strong>Parktown Boys&#8217; High<\/strong> secured a 1-0 victory over <strong>Jeppe High School for Boys<\/strong>, while the hosts of the <a href=\"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/what-makes-the-absa-wildeklawer-soccer-tournament-unique\/\"><strong>Absa Wildeklawer Soccer Tournament, Kimberley Boys&#8217; High<\/strong><\/a>, scored a comfortable 3-0 win over <strong>Empangeni High<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>In the Plate semifinals, Kimberley Boys&#8217; High stunned St David&#8217;s 1-0, while Pretoria Boys High sneaked by Parktown 4-3 on penalties after their clash had ended level at 1-1.<\/p>\n<p>The Plate final, between Kimberley Boys&#8217; High and Pretoria Boys High, takes place 09:30 on Tuesday morning. St David&#8217;s and Parktown Boys&#8217; High also do battle.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Cup Competition\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In the primary event, the Cup, <strong>Wynberg Boys&#8217; High<\/strong>, and <strong>Navalsig High<\/strong> shared a tense goalless draw in a quarterfinals&#8217; clash, but Wynberg then scored a comfortable 4-1 win from the penalty spot.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Vaal High School<\/strong>, a late inclusion, in the event, claimed a 3-1 win over <strong>Hodisa Technical High<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Westville Boys&#8217; High<\/strong> and <strong>Grey College<\/strong> finished at 0-0 after regulation time, but the hosts advanced with a 4-2 win from the spot.<\/p>\n<p>The two-time defending champions, St Stithians College, defeated <a href=\"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/northern-academy-lifts-the-inaugural-curro-halala-cup\/\"><strong>the runners-up of the inaugural Curro Halala Cup, Norkem Park<\/strong><\/a>, by a tight 1-0 margin.<\/p>\n<p>Both semi-finals were decided on penalties. After Wynberg Boys&#8217; High and St Stithians drew 1-1, Wynberg moved into the title decider 4-2 from the spot. Vaal High, meanwhile, also shared a 1-1 draw with Grey College, but they went through 5-4 after a penalty shootout.<\/p>\n<p>Those results have left <em><strong>Saints<\/strong> <\/em>to face Grey College in the bronze medal playoff.
