{"id":8457,"date":"2019-01-23T07:01:43","date_gmt":"2019-01-23T07:01:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/rugby.supersportschools.com\/roux-pleased-with-junior-bok-u18-assessment-camp\/"},"modified":"2019-01-23T07:01:43","modified_gmt":"2019-01-23T07:01:43","slug":"roux-pleased-with-junior-bok-u18-assessment-camp","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/test.ssschoolsplus.co.za\/?p=8457","title":{"rendered":"Roux pleased with Junior Bok U18 assessment camp"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" alignleft size-full wp-image-8456\" style=\"margin: 0px 10px 5px 0px; float: left;\" src=\"https:\/\/rugby.supersportschools.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/NewsGCheanRoux.jpg\" alt=\"NewsGCheanRoux\" width=\"380\" height=\"285\" srcset=\"https:\/\/test.ssschoolsplus.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/NewsGCheanRoux.jpg 750w, https:\/\/test.ssschoolsplus.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/NewsGCheanRoux-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 380px) 100vw, 380px\" \/>Junior Springbok coach Chean Roux was pleased with the Under-18 assessment camp hosted in Potchefstroom last week as the SA U20 management team continued with the groundwork for the World Rugby U20 Championship, which will be hosted in Argentina in June<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">A total of 32 players were invited to the four-day camp, which included a number of last year\u2019s AON U18 International Series squad members, including captain Adrian Alberts and vice-captain Muzi Manyike.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">This camp followed on the successful U19 assessment camp hosted in Stellenbosch in November.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Players from both squads will be eligible for selection for the World Rugby U20 Championship, which will be hosted in Rosario and Santa Fe.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u201cThe U18 assessment camp went very well,\u201d said Roux. \u201cWe worked on the basic principles in terms of our structures, and it was pleasing to see how the players reacted to the on-field demands after such a long break. It is definitely a promising group of players.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u201cAs with the U19 camp, one of the main objectives was to get to know the players, and for them to work with us and experience first-hand what is expected from them at this level.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Roux said the next step would be for his coaching team to decide which players to invite to the SA Rugby Academy, which runs from Sunday, 3 February, <\/span>to<span style=\"color: #000000;\"> late April, which will double up as an opportunity to begin working with the players, as all the SA Rugby Academy players will be eligible for selection for the World Rugby U20 Championship. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The SA Rugby Academy programme will feature three training camps from February to April, and according to Roux, the squads could vary over the course of the programme. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u201cThe squads that will be invited to the training camps are not fixed, so the door is not closed to anyone trying to play their way into the World Rugby U20 Championship squad,\u201d said Roux. \u201cWe will only select our U20 Championship squad in April after our warm-up matches against Georgia and Argentina, so there is a long way to go before we finalise the group.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The matches against Georgia and Argentina will be hosted in Stellenbosch on Tuesday, 9 April, and on Saturday, 13 April, respectively. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><em><strong>Issued by SA Rugby Communications<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Junior Springbok coach Chean Roux was pleased with the Under-18 assessment camp hosted in Potchefstroom last week as the SA U20 management team continued with the groundwork for the World Rugby U20 Championship, which will be hosted in Argentina in June.
