After a blistering start on Thursday, spectators were treated to a show on Friday at the Woodridge College Stayers Water Polo Tournament<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n

The annual tournament is into its third edition and runs into Sunday, with the girls\u2019 and boys\u2019 finals scheduled for 13:00 and 14:00, respectively.<\/span><\/p>\n

Day two delivered goals galore, with some of the top teams stretching their leads.<\/span><\/p>\n

In the boys\u2019 section, the hosts lead Pool A with nine points after convincing wins over Grey College<\/strong> (14-3), Kingswood College<\/strong> (9-1), and Somerset College<\/strong> (14-3).<\/span><\/p>\n

Grey College lies second, followed by Kingswood and Somerset College, who are still searching for a first victory.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Selborne College<\/strong> is out front in Pool B after scoring a whopping 25 goals in their three matches, all victories, over <\/span>Wynberg Boys’ High<\/strong>, Pearson High<\/strong> and Grey High School<\/strong>‘s second-stringers respectively.<\/span><\/p>\n

Grey High’s first team, meanwhile, has enjoyed a smooth run in Pool C, and they will progress to the quarterfinals after staying unbeaten throughout the pool stage matches. <\/span><\/p>\n

The defending champions, St Andrew’s College<\/a><\/strong>, are also sitting comfortably after two days of action.\u00a0<\/span>The Grant Mackenzie<\/strong>-coached outfit defeated Glenwood House 8-2 on Thursday, which they followed with a 12-3 win over Hudson Park<\/strong> on Friday before scoring 15 goals against Merrifield College<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Only Selborne, St Andrew’s, Woodridge, and Grey High have secured their places in the quarterfinals.\u00a0<\/span>Their opponents will be determined after cross-pool playoff matches early on day three. <\/span><\/p>\n

GIRLS<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

The smaller girls’ competition features two groups of six teams each, and competition has been keen.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In Pool A, Hudson Park High <\/strong>has dominated, scoring with relative ease, and they have bagged a healthy 14 points after their five matches.<\/span><\/p>\n

On Friday, they defeated Merrifield 10-1 and Oakhill<\/strong> 13-3 to assert their dominance. Those wins followed victories over DSG Makhanda<\/strong> and Collegiate Girls\u2019 High <\/strong>on Thursday. They were, however, extended to a penalty shootout win by Woodridge.<\/span><\/p>\n

DSG is in second place on 12 points after they defeated Collegiate 5-3 in their final game on Friday.<\/span><\/p>\n

Hudson Park is through to the quarterfinals, along with DSG, Collegiate, and Woodridge<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n

In Pool B, it’s another East London school that’s laid down a marker, with Clarendon High School for Girls<\/strong> picking <\/span>up maximum points. They have one group stage game remaining against Pearson<\/strong> early on Saturday.<\/span><\/p>\n

Clarendon is through to the quarterfinals where, as things stand, they\u2019ll be joined by Kingswood College.<\/span><\/p>\n

Glenwood House<\/strong> is still in with a shout at the quarters, while Stirling High<\/strong> will hope that Clarendon can do them a favour by beating Pearson.<\/span><\/p>\n
