Photo: Mondli Dube.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The weekend&#8217;s <strong>Gauteng Development League (GDL)<\/strong> schedule was relatively subdued with only four matches being played, but they included a key clash between title-chasing <strong>Highlands Park<\/strong> and <strong>Remember Elite Sport Academy (RESA)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>On Saturday, before the start of the standout match of the weekend, <strong>Highlands Park<\/strong>, who are pursuing a three-peat, enjoyed a three-point lead over <strong>Mamelodi Sundowns<\/strong> at the top of the table.\u00a0RESA was in third place.<\/p>\n<p>At <strong>Balfour Park<\/strong>, Highlands Park stuck a dagger in RESA&#8217;s faint hopes of challenging for the title by recording a hard-fought 1-0 victory. With the win, <em><strong>t<\/strong><strong>he Lions of the North <\/strong><\/em>are in the driving seat and well positioned to claim a third successive GDL title, but the race is not over.<\/p>\n<p>They&#8217;re on 74 points, with three matches remaining on their fixture list. Sundowns has four games to go and is four points off the pace. RESA, after the loss, remains on 65 points, in third.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Football - Kaizer Chiefs vs Jomo Cosmos - Gauteng Development League - 12 October 2025\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/w9Q-ltWqr0M?start=2&amp;feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><strong>Randburg<\/strong>, who had been in the running a little earlier in the season before falling off the pace, was held to a 1-1 draw by <strong>Kathorus Hyper Academy<\/strong>, another team that enjoyed a good run before losing steam.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Wits Junior<\/strong> and <strong>TS Galaxy<\/strong>, meanwhile, played to a 2-2 stalemate.<\/p>\n<p>On Sunday, <strong>Kaizer Chiefs<\/strong> and <strong>Jomo Cosmos<\/strong> delivered one of the most exciting matches seen in the GDL in recent weeks.
