{"id":85505,"date":"2025-10-23T10:19:37","date_gmt":"2025-10-23T08:19:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/?p=85505"},"modified":"2025-10-23T10:19:37","modified_gmt":"2025-10-23T08:19:37","slug":"sa-u17-teams-and-fixtures-for-the-2025-dato-mirnawan-cup","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/test.ssschoolsplus.co.za\/?p=85505","title":{"rendered":"SA u17 teams and fixtures for the 2025 Dato Mirnawan Cup"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_85507\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-85507\" style=\"width: 400px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-85507\" src=\"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/464940015_18251113960258222_1935746586351496687_n-400x400.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-85507\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The fourth edition of the Dato Mirnawan Cup kicks off on 1 November in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The <strong>South African<\/strong> national u17 <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">boys\u2019<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> and <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">girls\u2019<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> hockey teams will go in search of their maiden titles at the<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"><strong>\u00a0Dato Mirnawan u17 Cup<\/strong> in Malaysia early next month.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">It&#8217;s the fourth edition of the annual tournament, and it runs from 1 to 10 November in <strong>Kuala Lumpur<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">South African teams have been part of the event since 2023.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Last year, the <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">boys&#8217;<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0side <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/coach-justin-collins-reflects-on-sa-u17s-dato-mirnawan-cup-performances\/\">finished in fifth place<\/a><\/strong>, while the girls<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/coach-shares-takeaways-from-sa-u17-girls-dato-mirnawan-cup-campaign\/\"> clinched fourth after losing 3-4 against South Korea<\/a><\/strong> in the bronze medal showdown.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/sendzuls-hattrick-not-enough-as-sa-takes-silver-in-malaysia\/\"><strong>In 2023, the South African boys finished as the runner-up<\/strong><\/a>, while the girls placed fourth.<\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Twelve months later, the squads are almost completely different.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">For a third year in succession, the <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">boys&#8217;<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a018-player squad will be coached <strong>Justin Collins<\/strong>, of <strong>Northwood<\/strong>. He&#8217;ll<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> be assisted by <strong>Michael Abrahams<\/strong>, from <strong>Collegiate <\/strong><\/span><strong>Girls&#8217;<\/strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"><strong> High<\/strong>, in Gqeberha.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The coaching staff also includes s<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">trength and conditioning coach <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"><strong>Albertus van Heerden<\/strong>, from <strong>King Edward VII (KES)<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Westville Boys&#8217;<\/strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"><strong>\u00a0High<\/strong> head coach, <strong>Cameron Mackey<\/strong>, will serve as the video analyst, while <strong>Pius Nkosi<\/strong> takes on the managerial responsibilities, and <strong>Wayne Marsden<\/strong> is the <strong>South African Schools Hockey (SASHOC)<\/strong> delegate.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">There&#8217;s a new coach at the helm of the girls&#8217; team, with <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"><strong>Natalie Esteves<\/strong>, from <strong>St <\/strong><\/span><strong>Cyprian&#8217;s<\/strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"><strong> School<\/strong>, taking over the reins from <strong>Omari Pienaar-Geyer<\/strong>, who was in charge in 2023 and 2024<\/span><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">. <\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Esteves, who led the <strong>Western Province u18A <\/strong><\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">girls\u2019<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> team to a bronze medal at the <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/du-plessis-leads-boland-to-sashoc-national-week-glory\/\">SASHOC National Week<\/a><\/strong>, will be assisted by <strong>Nolwazi Nkabinde<\/strong>, from <strong>St <\/strong><\/span><strong>Mary&#8217;s<\/strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"><strong> DSG, Kloof<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Former SA u21 player<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">, <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"><strong>Danielle Cairns<\/strong>, who <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">plies her trade<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> at <strong>Kearsney College<\/strong>, will <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">be<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> the strength and conditioning coach.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>TEAMS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Boys<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Marley Musasa<\/strong>, <strong>Daniel Fisher <\/strong>(both Rondebosch Boys\u2019 High and Western Province), <strong>Viwe Ndlovu<\/strong>, <strong>Andile Lembethe<\/strong> (both Maritzburg College and KZN Inland), <strong>Ruben Gouws<\/strong>, <strong>Logan Lackey<\/strong> (both Paul Roos Gimnasium and Boland), <strong>Cameron Cordeiro<\/strong>, <strong>Chavez Sanger<\/strong>, <strong>Mohlodi Maseko<\/strong> (all SACS and Western Province), <strong>Keegan de Jager<\/strong> (Kearsney College, KZN Coastal), <strong>Jacques van Dyk<\/strong> (Stellenberg High, Western Province), <strong>Liam Brooker<\/strong> (Pretoria Boys High, Northern Gauteng), <strong>Thandanani Zuma<\/strong> (Michaelhouse, KZN Inland), <strong>Matteo Stipcevich<\/strong> (St David\u2019s Marist Inanda, Southern Gauteng), <strong>Neilyandro van Schalkwyk<\/strong> (Grey College, Southern Free State), <strong>Ryan Groenewald<\/strong> (Fairmont High, Western Province), <strong>Chad Julius<\/strong> (Wynberg Boys&#8217;
