Ho\u00ebrskool Charlie Hofmeyr<\/strong> won the toss and selected to bat first at Ho\u00ebrskool Strand<\/strong> on Saturday.<\/p>\n

Strand bowled well to dismiss the visitors for a low total, but they only just chased it down, getting home with two wickets to spare.<\/p>\n

Charlies<\/strong><\/em>‘ opener Driaan Louw<\/strong> scored a dogged 18 runs off 73 balls, while, in at six, Robert Koen<\/strong> mustered 18 off 40. Together, they added 35 runs for the fifth wicket.<\/p>\n

Benjamin de Reuck<\/strong> picked off the tail, taking 3\/20 in 7.5 overs, while Nicolae Roux<\/strong> and Zaylin Rule<\/strong> chipped in with two wickets each as the Ceres <\/strong>locals scrambled to 101 all out.<\/p>\n

Had it not been for 35 extras, they would have been dismissed well shy of triple figures.<\/p>\n

Strand needed a player to anchor their response, and they found him in Zaylin Rule<\/strong>, who was the third man to the crease. He tallied the highest score of the match, striking three fours in his 24 runs from 60 balls. That, along with 25 extras, was enough to see Strand to 106\/8 and victory after 35.3 overs.<\/p>\n

Ruben Giliomee<\/strong> made it a nervous chase for the home side, capturing 3 for 30 in 10 overs, while Martin du Plessis<\/strong> and Russouw Matthee<\/strong> picked up two wickets apiece. It was not quite enough.<\/p>\n

Ho\u00ebrskool Goudveld vs Ho\u00ebrskool Jim Fouch\u00e9 (50-over)<\/strong><\/p>\n

Ho\u00ebrskool Goudveld<\/strong> hosted Ho\u00ebrskool Jim<\/strong> Fouch\u00e9<\/strong> (JF) <\/strong>in Welkom on Saturday, and the Bloemfontein school turned a match that could have run for 100 overs into one that lasted only 47.2 in total.<\/p>\n

The home side struggled against JF<\/strong><\/em>”s tenacious bowling, which the visitors followed with an aggressive batting effort to win by eight wickets.<\/p>\n

Louw Fouch\u00e9<\/strong> top-scored for Goudveld, thumping three fours as he calmly collected 20 off 53 balls, but Cobus Wilken<\/strong> was lethal with the ball, knocking over 4\/10 in eight overs. Jareth Scott<\/strong> lent strong support, claiming 2\/23 in six overs as Gouties<\/strong><\/em> mustered only 101 all out after 34 overs.<\/p>\n

Opener Niel Wilken<\/strong> then set JF up for victory with a rapid and unbeaten 52 from just 39 deliveries, which included six fours and a six.<\/p>\n

His fellow opener Benco Olivier<\/strong> delivered the support that Wilken needed, contributing 21 off 23, while Franco de Necker<\/strong> helped to see the visitors across the finishing line, blasting four fours in his unbeaten 18 off 12.<\/p>\n

Edrich du Plessis<\/strong> was the only Goudveld bowler to pick up any wickets, recording 2\/24 from 3.4 overs as\u00a0Jim Fouch\u00e9 reached 103\/2 in only 13.4 overs (82 balls).<\/p>\n
