Photo: Frans Lombard\/Actionpix<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p data-start=\"164\" data-end=\"418\">The <strong>South African Rugby Union (SARU) <\/strong>has announced a 53-man <strong data-start=\"235\" data-end=\"291\">u17 Elite Player Development (EPD) Squad<\/strong> to attend a camp from 29 November to 6 December at <strong data-start=\"376\" data-end=\"394\">Boland Landbou<\/strong>, in the Western Cape.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"164\" data-end=\"418\">&#8220;As part of SA Rugby&#8217;s ongoing commitment to developing a truly nationwide rugby talent pipeline, we are continuing our comprehensive player identification programme in partnership with our Member Unions,&#8221; SARU said in a press statement.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This crucial initiative is meticulously designed to expand the junior talent pool and strategically strengthen the player pathway for future national selections, directly aligning with our Strategic Transformation and Development Plan.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"164\" data-end=\"418\">&#8220;The dedication shown by our unions has been instrumental in the success of our programmes over the years. Their commitment to nurturing and advancing rugby talent across South Africa is highly valued and supports our collective vision for sustainable excellence.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1420\" data-end=\"2103\">Unsurprisingly, <strong data-start=\"1436\" data-end=\"1461\">Western Province (WP)<\/strong>, leads the way with the largest representation of 16 players. <strong data-start=\"1586\" data-end=\"1605\">Paarl Gimnasium<\/strong> boasts the most individual selections, with six players, including <strong data-start=\"1673\" data-end=\"1693\">Liam de Villiers<\/strong> and <strong data-start=\"1698\" data-end=\"1716\">Mickyle Booise<\/strong>, who headline the union&#8217;s strong contingent.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1420\" data-end=\"2103\"><strong data-start=\"1762\" data-end=\"1785\">Paul Roos Gimnasium<\/strong> follows with three representatives, including the exciting <strong data-start=\"1854\" data-end=\"1870\">Tiaan Basson<\/strong>. <strong data-start=\"1896\" data-end=\"1912\">Juvan Burden<\/strong> and <strong data-start=\"1917\" data-end=\"1937\">Ethan van Biljon <\/strong>give <strong>Stellenberg<\/strong>&#8216;s <em><strong>Jade Brigade<\/strong> <\/em>two reps at the camp, while <strong>Rondebosch Boys&#8217; High<\/strong> supplies <strong data-start=\"1950\" data-end=\"1964\">Caleb Bell<\/strong> and <strong data-start=\"1969\" data-end=\"1988\">Shellvon Mabooi<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2105\" data-end=\"2313\"><strong data-start=\"2105\" data-end=\"2125\">Liam de Villiers<\/strong> of <strong data-start=\"2129\" data-end=\"2149\">Paarl Boys\u2019 High<\/strong>, <strong>Ho\u00ebrskool Durbanville&#8217;<\/strong>s <strong data-start=\"2151\" data-end=\"2172\">Zay-Winn Januarie<\/strong>, and <strong data-start=\"2204\" data-end=\"2224\">Achmat Behardien<\/strong>, of <strong>Wynberg Boys\u2019 High<\/strong>, complete the Western Cape contingent<em data-start=\"2226\" data-end=\"2246\">.<\/em><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2315\" data-end=\"2536\">The <strong data-start=\"2319\" data-end=\"2329\">Sharks<\/strong>, with 12, boast the second-highest number of players, led by three from <strong data-start=\"2427\" data-end=\"2447\">Kearsney College<\/strong>: <!--StartFragment --><span class=\"cf0\"><strong>Clement Makelele<\/strong>, <strong>Nhlanhla Ndlovu<\/strong>, and <strong>Lwazi Mbebe<\/strong>.<\/span><!--EndFragment --> Earlier this year, Makalele was part of the <strong>SARU u16 EPD<\/strong> squad.<\/p>\n<p>The northern powerhouse, the <strong data-start=\"2489\" data-end=\"2503\">Blue Bulls<\/strong>, ranks third with nine players, including three from <strong>Affies<\/strong>: <strong>Charl Els<\/strong>, <strong>Hannes Nagel<\/strong>, and <strong>Martin van Niekerk<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2538\" data-end=\"2873\">The smallers unions also provide their fair share of players. The <strong data-start=\"2587\" data-end=\"2609\">Limpopo Blue Bulls<\/strong> and <strong data-start=\"2614\" data-end=\"2623\">Pumas<\/strong> had one player selected each, with <strong data-start=\"2695\" data-end=\"2726\">Stephan Jansen van Rensburg<\/strong>, from <strong>Ho\u00ebrskool Pietersburg<\/strong>, flying the flag for Limpopo, while <strong>Ho\u00ebrskool Nelspruit<\/strong>&#8216;s <strong data-start=\"2790\" data-end=\"2810\">Rhandzu Mkhabela<\/strong> does the same for the Pumas.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2875\" data-end=\"3155\"><strong data-start=\"2875\" data-end=\"2894\">Queen&#8217;s College<\/strong> provides <strong>Zeake Mata<\/strong> and <strong>Ncuthu Kepe<\/strong>, who are the only representatives from the <strong data-start=\"2908\" data-end=\"2918\">Border <\/strong>region. Fleet-footed <strong data-start=\"2990\" data-end=\"3007\">Lamla Mgedezi<\/strong>, one of the most exciting players in the country in 2025, is joined by his <strong>Grey College<\/strong> teammate, <strong>O&#8217;Ryan Kleyn<\/strong> in the squad. They&#8217;re the only Free State representatives.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3157\" data-end=\"3485\">The <strong data-start=\"3161\" data-end=\"3170\">Lions <\/strong>had four players selected, including <strong data-start=\"3204\" data-end=\"3222\">Jaydon Viljoen, <\/strong>the top points&#8217; scorer at <strong data-start=\"3248\" data-end=\"3264\">Academy Week, <\/strong>and the gifted <strong data-start=\"3280\" data-end=\"3296\">Phano Letsie<\/strong>, who is joined in the squad by his <strong data-start=\"3309\" data-end=\"3339\">Jeppe High School for Boys<\/strong>&#8216; teammate, <strong>Mihle Dyakala<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong data-start=\"3354\" data-end=\"3387\">South Western Districts (SWD)<\/strong>, who contested the <strong data-start=\"3389\" data-end=\"3404\">Craven Week<\/strong> final at <strong data-start=\"3418\" data-end=\"3442\">Ho\u00ebrskool Middelburg<\/strong> in July, also had three players from <strong>Oakdale Landbou <\/strong>chosen for EPD camp, including <strong data-start=\"3551\" data-end=\"3574\">Jacobus de Villiers<\/strong>, who earned SA Schools and SA u18 colours in 2025, and the massive lock, <strong data-start=\"3579\" data-end=\"3597\">Diaan Augustyn<\/strong>, who was selected for the SA Schools A side and SA u18A teams. Prop, Matthew Prins will be <strong>Outeniqua<\/strong>&#8216;s sole representative<\/p>\n<p><strong>Eastern Province<\/strong> provides three players &#8211;\u00a0<strong>Luke Doyle<\/strong>, <strong>Erin Nelson<\/strong>, and <strong>Lucritia Magau<\/strong> &#8211;
