Photo: Supplied<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"><strong>Central Gauteng<\/strong>&#8216;s u19A boys&#8217; captain, <strong>Nicholas Searle<\/strong>, will be gunning to end his school water polo career on a high when he leads his side at the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/international-spots-up-for-grabs-at-50th-schools-water-polo-ipt\/\">South African Schools\u2019 Water Polo (SWPSA) Inter-Provincial Tournament (IPT)<\/a><\/strong> in Johannesburg.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The 50th edition of the highly anticipated tournament takes place <\/span>from 6 to 10 December.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/live.supersportschools.com\/category\/60881d22e4b5815e6525b589\/sub-category\/68f751863c894fa488a22404\/\"><strong>Catch the action LIVE on SuperSport Schools<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The u19 boys&#8217; matches will be played at <strong>St David&#8217;s Marist Inanda<\/strong>, while the girls&#8217; games will be hosted at <strong>St Stithians College<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Searle and his teammates are aiming to make history and defend the title they won a year ago in East London, where they beat <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/central-gauteng-holds-off-kzn-in-tight-u19-final\/\">KwaZulu-Natal 8-6<\/a> <\/strong>in a tight final.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">&#8220;The build-up to IPT has been quite intense,&#8221; he told <a href=\"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/watersports\"><strong>SuperSport Schools Plus<\/strong><\/a>. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">&#8220;We have been setting the level high with constant training every day. We are doing high-intensity stuff, lots of sprints and a lot of skills-based work.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The <strong>St John&#8217;s College<\/strong> learner started playing water polo in grade five after transitioning from swimming. <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">He was roped into the sport by the legendary <strong>Vladimir Trinic<\/strong> and, as they say, the rest is history.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Searle, then, played his way up the St John&#8217;s ranks and over the past two years has been one of the standout boys&#8217; water polo players in South Africa. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">His performances for school and province have seen him be part of title-winning teams at the IPT, the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/mamaregane-inspires-central-gauteng-to-currie-cup-glory\/\">Currie Cup<\/a><\/strong>, the<\/span> <span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"><strong>KES Water Polo Tournament<\/strong>, and, most recently, the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/st-johns-college-wins-sacs-water-polo-tournament-after-thrilling-final\/\">SACS Water Polo Tournament<\/a><\/strong>, among others.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-87112 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/4M2A0941-copy-400x267.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"267\" \/>Reflecting on his time in the sport, he said: &#8220;It&#8217;s been a long journey with some memorable moments. I think winning the KES tournament was one of the most significant moments in my high school career. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">&#8220;Of course, I had watched the likes of <strong>Matt Pryce<\/strong> win it, and those were some of the most dominant years for St John&#8217;s polo. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">&#8220;I looked up to them, watched them win countless tournaments, and KES was the biggest.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">&#8220;From this year, I would definitely say winning the SACS Water Polo Tournament to end off my grade 12 year was big and important. I finished with seven goals in the final while wearing the cap number seven. That was a good coincidence.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Coach <strong>Jon-Marc De Carvalho<\/strong> will lead the Gauteng outfit, and he&#8217;s selected a <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/madi-thrilled-to-be-coaching-gauteng-ipt-teams\/\">stacked and talented squad<\/a><\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Searle says he\u2019s eager to have one final dance with his provincial teammates.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">&#8220;It&#8217;s definitely a big one on home soil, and a lot of thought has gone into this tournament,&#8221; he said. &#8220;<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">From the start of the year, it&#8217;s been on my mind, thinking about the team, and how we are going to progress.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">&#8220;I&#8217;m very excited to be playing my last IPT at St David&#8217;s. That&#8217;s very special to me. I have spent many hours at that pool, practising and playing matches, so I look forward to it.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Gauteng has been drawn in Pool A and will face <strong>Buffalo City<\/strong>, <strong>Central Gauteng B<\/strong> and <strong>Nelson Mandela Bay<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">They will also lock horns with the <strong>Aussie Crocs<\/strong> on day three.
