The Girls’ u13<\/strong> competition at the Schools Water Polo South Africa (SWPSA) Inter-Provincial Tournament<\/strong> got underway on Saturday afternoon at St Stithians<\/strong> College<\/strong>, in Johannesburg, with a cracking contest between the Eastern Cape rivals, Buffalo City A<\/strong> and Nelson Mandela Bay A<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

There was next to nothing to separate the sides, who finished level at 5-5. Buffalo City, however, claimed the win after a penalty shootout.<\/p>\n

Jade Sansom<\/strong> scored twice for the winners in regulation time, while Mataiah Smith<\/strong> did the same for Nelson Mandela Bay A.<\/p>\n

Central Gauteng C<\/strong> were the top scorers on the opening day, putting 18 past Eastern Gauteng B<\/strong>, with Keira Gordon-Bennett<\/strong> slotting five times and Blye Mitchell<\/strong> netting four. Sonali Singh<\/strong> scored Easterns’ lone goal.<\/p>\n

The biggest splash was made by Western Province B<\/strong>, who outplayed KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) A<\/strong>, romping to a 7-2 win in which Rebecca Hime <\/strong>scored a hat-trick, while Christina Cox <\/strong>and Sky Geffen <\/strong>added two each. Olivia Botha <\/strong>fired in both KZN goals.<\/p>\n

Boland<\/strong> got the better of Buffalo City B<\/strong>, winning 8-5, with Gabriella Dewey <\/strong>leading them by notching a hat-trick.<\/p>\n

Zimbabwe B<\/strong> made a strong impression with a convincing 10-2 win over Northerns<\/strong>. Rebecca Martin<\/strong> struck three times for the Zimbabweans and Farai Matabeya<\/strong> added a brace.<\/p>\n

KwaZulu-Natal B<\/strong> cruised past Nelson Mandela Bay B<\/strong> in the last game of the day, winning 8-1, with Emily Kriel<\/strong> and Sasha Brown<\/strong> bagging two goals apiece.<\/p>\n

Boys<\/strong><\/p>\n

In the Boys’ u13<\/strong> competition, at St David’s Marist Inanda<\/strong>‘s\u00a0Fourvi\u00e8re Pool<\/strong>, the home team, Central Gauteng A<\/strong> made a statement with a 6-2 win over KwaZulu-Natal A<\/strong>, scoring four goals without answer after the sides were level at 2-2.<\/p>\n

In 2024, KZN A went unbeaten and won the u13 title, with KZN B finishing in fourth place. An unbeaten record is no longer possible for the defending champions, but they’ll, no doubt, be in the running later for a top finish at the event.<\/p>\n

Samuel Terlingen<\/strong> led the Central Gauteng A challenge, scoring three goals, while Chuma Manjo<\/strong> beat the ‘keeper twice. Mpilo Khomo<\/strong> scored both KZN goals.<\/p>\n

Later in the day, Western Province A<\/strong>, one of the traditional title challengers, was pressed hard by KZN B<\/strong> and won by three goals, which reflected well on the host’s four-goal win over KZN A.<\/p>\n

Central Gauteng B<\/strong> showed off the depth of the province by downing Nelson Mandela Bay A<\/strong> 4-2 in the opening game of the IPT, and Central Gauteng C<\/strong> blanked Eastern Gauteng<\/strong> 7-0.<\/p>\n

Western Province B<\/strong>, meanwhile, wrapped up the day’s programme with a resounding 13-2 victory over Buffalo City A<\/strong>. Charles Dingley<\/strong> and Max Wides<\/strong> starred with four goals apiece.<\/p>\n

Eden Districts<\/strong> netted 12 times against Zimbabwe B<\/strong>. It was a humdinger, with the Zimbabweans replying with 10 of their own. Jordan Meiring<\/strong> stole the spotlight with his five goals for Eden, but Dominic Hutchings<\/strong> went one better, burying six shots into the back of the net for Zim B.<\/p>\n

Zimbabwe A<\/strong> lost out to Northerns A<\/strong> in a penalty shootout after their game had ended 6-6. Despite the loss, Mason Granger<\/strong> starred for South Africa’s northern neighbours, depositing four goals into the Northerns A net.<\/p>\n

Ryan Magson<\/strong> scored four and Rogan Barrett<\/strong> three in Nelson Mandela Bay B<\/strong>‘s 11-4 win over Northerns B<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
