Photo: <strong>Frans Lombard<\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The last time the <strong>Western Province<\/strong> <strong>(WP)<\/strong> u19A boys&#8217; side faced <strong>Central Gauteng A<\/strong> in the final of the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/top-guns-storm-into-quarterfinals-despite-weather-chaos\/\">Schools Water Polo South Africa (SWPSA) Inter-Provincial Tournament<\/a><\/strong> (IPT) was<\/span> <span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">in 2023.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">That clash took place at <strong>Grey High School<\/strong>, in Gqeberha.\u00a0<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">It was a nail-biting thriller that more than lived up to expectations, and WP did just enough to win it <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/western-province-boys-crowned-champs-after-nail-biting-shootout\/\">8-7 on penalties after the game ended tied 8-8<\/a> <\/strong>after regular time. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Two years on, and the fierce rivalry between the provincial rivals will be reignited when they go at it in the final at <strong>St David\u2019s Marist Inanda<\/strong>&#8216;s <strong>Jubilee Pool<\/strong> on Wednesday at 13:10.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/u19BoysIPT2025-WaterPolo\"><strong>Catch the action LIVE on SuperSport Schools<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The finalists booked their spots in the <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">big game after <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">a weather-stricken day four <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">that was<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> affected by lightning, delays, and a change of <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">venues<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Their respective journeys to the title decider were quite similar.\u00a0<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Both finished the group stages unbeaten, <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">as<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> Central Gauteng A <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">swept<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> through Group A<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">, <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">while<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> Province <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">was<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0almost untouchable in Pool B.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">In the last eight, Central Gauteng A met <strong>Western Province B<\/strong> and made light work of their opponents.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Coach <\/span><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Jon-Marc De Carvalho&#8217;<\/span><\/strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">s side scored a whopping 21 goals and conceded just four as <strong>Harry Wilkins<\/strong> scored five times, while <strong>Cooper Haworth<\/strong> netted four, and <strong>Aiden Khoury<\/strong>, <strong>Erik Arwidi<\/strong>, and <strong>Chris Chapman<\/strong> all fired in hat-tricks.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">That victory set up a semifinal date with <strong>KwaZulu-Natal A<\/strong>, who were made to sweat for their 12-8 victory over <strong>Central Gauteng B<\/strong> in the quarterfinals.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Due to the bad weather, their showdown was played at <strong>St John&#8217;s College<\/strong>&#8216;s <strong>Indoor Aquatic Centre<\/strong>. It was a cracker!\u00a0<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">From the first chukka, it was end-to-end stuff.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Waterpolo Semi-Final - Central Gauteng A vs KwaZulu Natal A - Boys SWPSA IPT - 9 December 2025\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/lURAWqhPEX4?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><strong>Declan Wood<\/strong> opened the scoring for the home side, but\u00a0<span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">KZN responded almost immediately through <strong>Adrian Truter<\/strong>. <strong>Harry Wilkins <\/strong>replied to give the local outfit the lead again.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Central Gauteng A started to link up well, and they moved the ball around with intent. Goals by Erik Arwidi, <strong>James Crick<\/strong>, <strong>Simon Mussett<\/strong>, and a brace by Cooper Haworth edged them into a 7-5 lead at the break.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The tempo of the game increased in the second half, but it was Central Gauteng A who held onto their slender advantage.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The visitors had moments where they looked good, but a miracle was needed to stage a dramatic comeback.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">In the second half, Gauteng eventually outscored their opponents by six goals to three to seal a gritty 13-8 win, which kept their title defence alive.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_87573\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-87573\" style=\"width: 400px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-87573\" src=\"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/WhatsApp-Image-2025-12-08-at-7.09.47-PM-2-b-400x266.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"266\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-87573\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Matt Fenn will aim to bring his A-game when Western Province contest the final of the IPT against Central Gauteng. Photo: <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/TeamphotoSA\">TeamPhotoSA<\/a><\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">While Central Gauteng A defeated KZN A, coach <strong>Devon Card<\/strong>&#8216;s Western Province A outfit knew they were in for a tough outing against <strong>Northerns<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">WP had enjoyed smooth progress in their quarterfinals game against <strong>Buffalo City<\/strong>, winning 10-4. <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Northerns, meanwhile, pulled off a stirring 10-9 win over <strong>Nelson Mandela Bay<\/strong> <strong>(NMB)<\/strong> to secure their semifinal spot.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">WP A was favoured to win, and they showed why in the early going, opening up a two-goal buffer in the first chukka.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"><strong>Luke Burger<\/strong> scored two incredible goals, and he was joined on the scoresheet by two of the usual suspects, <strong>Matt Fenn<\/strong> and <strong>James Malan<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Northerns, however, weren&#8217;t going down without a fight, and coach <strong>Juan-Claud Tribelhorn<\/strong>&#8216;s side showed grit, tenacity, and a never-say-die attitude.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>At half-time, the boys from the Western Cape led, but it wasn&#8217;t a comfortable lead. They&#8217;ll try to go all the way in the Jubilee Pool at St David&#8217;s on Wednesday.
