\"\"KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) A<\/strong> edged out Western Province A<\/strong> 3-1 in a penalty shootout after the sides had finished regulation time level at 6-6 in the u15 Boys’ final at the 50th Schools Water Polo South Africa Inter-Provincial Tournament<\/strong>, played at St David’s Marist Inanda<\/strong>‘s Jubilee Pool<\/strong> on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

KwaZulu-Natal made it an u15 double when the province also claimed the girls’ title with a 7-4 win over Western Province A in St David’s Fourvi\u00e8re Pool<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Boys<\/strong><\/p>\n

With their win in the final, KwaZulu-Natal A finished the IPT undefeated. When they met Western Province A in a group stage game on Sunday, they claimed a narrow 8-6 win, with Dru Mills<\/strong> firing in five goals in that contest.<\/p>\n

WP A kept Mills off the scoresheet in the final, but Josh Watson<\/strong> struck three times and Lincoln Burger<\/strong> twice to help their side into the shootout.<\/p>\n

While Western Province A had to endure the disappointment of narrowly missing out on the title, the province was able to celebrate placing their two sides in the top three. Western Province B<\/strong> comfortably defeated Nelson Mandela Bay<\/strong> in the bronze medal game, winning 6-2.<\/p>\n

The home province, Central Gauteng<\/strong>, had their A and B teams meet for fifth place, with the A-side doubling up their compatriots, taking an 8-4 victory.<\/p>\n

Seventh went to Buffalo City<\/strong>, who won by three goals over Northerns A<\/strong>, while Zimbabwe<\/strong>‘s Luca Simoes<\/strong> netted four times in his team’s tight 8-7 win over Eden Districts<\/strong> in the ninth-place playoff.<\/p>\n

Girls<\/strong><\/p>\n

Solid all-round performances from KwaZulu-Natal A <\/strong>throughout the IPT led the team to the girls’ title. While Mary Aylward<\/strong> was their leading scorer, they also received regular goal-scoring contributions from many others in their successful campaign.<\/p>\n

In the final, Mikayla Morrison<\/strong> beat the ‘keeper three times, while Aylward scored twice. The 7-4 victory also kept KZN’s pristine record intact.<\/p>\n

It was an outstanding tournament for Buffalo City A<\/strong>, who romped to a 9-3 win over Central Gauteng A<\/strong> in the third-place playoff. They had beaten them 5-4 in a group stage match, which led to the Eastern Cape side topping Group A. Their only loss was by a single goal to Western Province A in the semi-finals on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

Zimbabwe<\/strong> performed well and downed Nelson Mandela Bay<\/strong> 5-3 to place fifth.<\/p>\n

In a meeting of two B-sides, Western Province B<\/strong> held off Central Gauteng B<\/strong> 5-4 to take seventh spot, while the top scorer in the girls’ u15 competition, Frankie Dewe<\/strong>, netted three times in KwaZulu-Natal B<\/strong>‘s 10-4 win over Buffalo City B<\/strong> in the ninth-place playoff.<\/p>\n

Dewe finished with 16 goals, two more than Mary Aylward, of KZN A, and three more than Eastern Gauteng’s Chloe Regnard<\/strong>, who scored both of Easterns’ goals in a 2-3 defeat to Central Gauteng C<\/strong> in the eleventh-place playoff.<\/p>\n
