{"id":87824,"date":"2025-12-15T06:11:27","date_gmt":"2025-12-15T04:11:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/?p=87824"},"modified":"2025-12-15T06:11:27","modified_gmt":"2025-12-15T04:11:27","slug":"lions-crowned-csa-u16-boys-week-champions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/test.ssschoolsplus.co.za\/?p=87824","title":{"rendered":"Lions crowned CSA u16 Boys Week champions"},"content":{"rendered":"<p data-start=\"238\" data-end=\"425\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-86365\" src=\"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/cricket-bat-helmet-gloves-091125-400x267.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"267\" \/><strong>The<\/strong> <strong data-start=\"242\" data-end=\"267\">Central Gauteng Lions<\/strong> capped off a successful five days by completing a double over <strong>The Titans<\/strong> on the final day of the <strong data-start=\"371\" data-end=\"401\">CSA u16 Boys National Week<\/strong>, in Paarl, in the Western Cape.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"427\" data-end=\"637\">When they previously met, rain played a role in the outcome, and The Lions won on the <strong>Duckworth-Lewis-Stern Method<\/strong>. This time it didn&#8217;t interfere.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"639\" data-end=\"926\">Sunday&#8217;s showdown at <strong>Boland Landbou<\/strong> was not a high-scoring affair, with The Lions being dismissed for a middling 167.<\/p>\n<p><strong data-start=\"806\" data-end=\"821\">Zizi Mkhize<\/strong> top-scored with 33, while <strong data-start=\"848\" data-end=\"866\">Lincoln Casias<\/strong> and <strong data-start=\"876\" data-end=\"892\">Zuan Joubert<\/strong> made valuable contributions of 28 and 27 respectively.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"928\" data-end=\"1385\">The match was ultimately decided by The Lions&#8217; disciplined bowling performance, with <strong data-start=\"1006\" data-end=\"1024\">Thomas Collins <\/strong>taking the lead and claiming 4\/16 in six overs. He was well supported by <strong data-start=\"1082\" data-end=\"1102\">Preceli Molapisi<\/strong>, who returned 2\/25, also from six overs.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"928\" data-end=\"1385\"><strong data-start=\"1175\" data-end=\"1194\">Rourke de Lange<\/strong>, of <strong>Cornwall Hill College<\/strong>, stood out for The Titans. He captured 4\/25 in 10 overs and also chipped in with 20 with the bat. But the day belonged to The Lions, who bowled out their northern neighbours for 134 to win by 33 runs.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1387\" data-end=\"1800\">The repeat fixture between the <strong data-start=\"1418\" data-end=\"1443\">Eastern Cape Iinyathi<\/strong> and the <strong data-start=\"1452\" data-end=\"1480\">SWD Garden Route Badgers<\/strong>, at <strong>Swartland High School<\/strong>, resulted in another captivating contest, which produced four of the six half-centuries scored on the day.<\/p>\n<p><strong data-start=\"1614\" data-end=\"1637\">Avethandwa Manyongo<\/strong> was the standout batman for the Iinyathi in their 30-run victory &#8211; their second over the Badgers &#8211; anchoring their innings with a composed 70 from 100 deliveries.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1802\" data-end=\"2191\">Coming in at seven, <strong data-start=\"1820\" data-end=\"1836\">Jack Bosazza<\/strong> recorded the second-highest score of the match with an important 58, which helped to lift the <strong data-start=\"1923\" data-end=\"1935\">Iinyathi<\/strong> to a solid total of 248 all out.<\/p>\n<p>In reply, both <strong data-start=\"1976\" data-end=\"1993\">Ross Taljaard<\/strong> and <strong data-start=\"1998\" data-end=\"2013\">Jordan Ross<\/strong> passed fifty for the <strong data-start=\"2040\" data-end=\"2051\">Badgers<\/strong>. Taljaard was SWD&#8217;s top scorer with 57 from 63 balls, while Ross added a patient 52 from 82 deliveries.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2193\" data-end=\"2446\">The <strong data-start=\"2193\" data-end=\"2208\">Iinyathi<\/strong>&#8216;s <strong data-start=\"2193\" data-end=\"2208\">Josh Wilkie<\/strong>, after <a href=\"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/josh-wilkies-triple-ton-sets-national-week-batting-record\/\"><strong>scoring a triple-century in their opening match<\/strong><\/a>, ended the week as the event&#8217;s leading scorer, amassing 442 runs at an average of 88.4 across five matches. <strong data-start=\"2325\" data-end=\"2341\">Jack Bosazza<\/strong> and <!--StartFragment --><strong><span class=\"cf0\">Avethandwa<\/span><span class=\"cf0\"> Manyongo<\/span><\/strong>, both finished second on the bowling charts, claiming 12 wickets each, while Manyongo, who also scored 127 runs, was named the All-Rounder of the Week.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2448\" data-end=\"2864\"><strong data-start=\"2448\" data-end=\"2480\">Northern Cape<\/strong>&#8216;s <strong data-start=\"2448\" data-end=\"2480\">Cobus Fourie<\/strong> scored Sunday&#8217;s only century to lead his side to their first win of the week on the <strong>Dal Josaphat B Field<\/strong>.\u00a0He struck 105 from 115 balls, with 10 fours and a six, and shared a 115-run fourth wicket stand with Ruben Viljoen, which was the key partnership in Northern Cape&#8217;s commanding 193-run victory.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2448\" data-end=\"2864\"><strong data-start=\"2604\" data-end=\"2611\">Kei<\/strong>, as had been the case throughout the week, struggled at the crease and were dismissed for just 83.<\/p>\n<p>On the <b>Parys Oval<\/b>,\u00a0<strong data-start=\"2866\" data-end=\"2885\">Ibrahiem Taliep<\/strong> was among the runs once more as <strong data-start=\"2918\" data-end=\"2938\">Western Province<\/strong> concluded their campaign with a 48-run win over <strong data-start=\"2987\" data-end=\"3007\">Eastern Province<\/strong>. Taliep top-scored with 82 and <strong data-start=\"3053\" data-end=\"3067\">Janko Webb<\/strong>, continued his fine form with 55 in WP\u2019s total of 174. <strong data-start=\"3132\" data-end=\"3153\">Matthew Marshbank<\/strong> led the EP bowling effort with a return of 4\/33.<\/p>\n<p>Despite 41 from <strong>Connor Parry<\/strong>, the Eastern Province reply failed to fire, and they were sent packing for 125, with <strong>Schalk Fourie<\/strong> knocking over 3\/17, <strong>Abhay Kalan<\/strong> 2\/11, and <strong>Raihan Khan<\/strong> 2\/24.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Corbin Tidbury<\/strong>, who made 25, enjoyed an outstanding all-round week, <span class=\"cf0\">tallying 158 runs while also picking up 11 wickets, which placed him in the top 10 in both categories.<\/span><!--EndFragment --><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3203\" data-end=\"3601\">The <strong data-start=\"3207\" data-end=\"3224\">Eastern Storm<\/strong>\u00a0joined the <strong data-start=\"3240\" data-end=\"3249\">Lions <\/strong>as the only unbeaten sides at the tournament, maintaining their clean record with a comfortable eight-wicket victory over <strong data-start=\"3368\" data-end=\"3382\">Free State <\/strong>on the <strong data-start=\"3368\" data-end=\"3382\">Paul Roos Oval.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong data-start=\"3384\" data-end=\"3398\">Duan Maree<\/strong> starred with the ball, capturing 3\/12 to restrict Free State to 112 all out. He was well supported by the tournament&#8217;s leading wicket-taker, <strong data-start=\"3527\" data-end=\"3548\">Christiano Moffat<\/strong>, whose 2\/25 saw him finish the week with 13 wickets.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3603\" data-end=\"3754\">After a strong effort in the field, Easterns&#8217; <strong data-start=\"3603\" data-end=\"3620\">Moeketsi Beya<\/strong> struck eight fours and three sixes in a commanding 66 from 51 balls, which was more than half of his side&#8217;s total, to steer the <strong data-start=\"3723\" data-end=\"3732\">Storm<\/strong> home inside 16 overs. The victory meant that the Storm won the second Division and earned their promotion to run alongside the big teams during the 2026 week.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3756\" data-end=\"4059\">On the <strong>Dal Josaphat A Field<\/strong>, <strong data-start=\"3781\" data-end=\"3803\">Boland&#8217;<\/strong>s <strong data-start=\"3781\" data-end=\"3803\">Neil Louw<\/strong> and <strong>The<\/strong> <strong>Tuskers<\/strong>&#8216;<strong> Ben Wilson<\/strong> played similarly effective innings, but the KwaZulu-Natal side won by six wickets. Louw was superb, making 74, but he lacked support. Wilson&#8217;s 65, meanwhile, was well backed up by <strong data-start=\"3999\" data-end=\"4016\">Cody Sander<\/strong>&#8216;s patient 48 from 97 balls, which proved decisive.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"4061\" data-end=\"4408\">For a second day in succession, <strong>The North West Dragons<\/strong> were involved in a low-scoring thriller. This time, though, they came out on the wrong end of the result, losing to <strong>The Dolphins<\/strong> by one wicket.<\/p>\n<p><strong data-start=\"4258\" data-end=\"4278\">AW van der Merwe<\/strong> was again the spearhead of the Dragons&#8217; attack, snapping up 6\/25 as he almost defended their total of 85 single-handedly.<\/p>\n<p>The KZN team was in big trouble on 44\/8 in the 16th over, but <strong>Luc Boyall<\/strong>, who top-scored with 26, and <strong>Caleb Naicker<\/strong>, who made 12 not out, combined for 33 runs for the ninth wicket to take the Dolphins to within eight runs of victory. Naicker and <strong>Esihle Gasa<\/strong>, then, stuck it out for 22 balls to see their side across the line.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"4410\" data-end=\"4701\"><strong data-start=\"4410\" data-end=\"4438\">Mpumalanga\u2019s Nijan Swart<\/strong> produced the best figures of the day, grabbing 6\/12 in a four-wicket victory over the <strong data-start=\"4527\" data-end=\"4546\">Limpopo Impalas<\/strong>.
