Photo: Ashley Vlotman.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p data-start=\"182\" data-end=\"400\">The <strong data-start=\"186\" data-end=\"211\">South African Schools<\/strong> side powered their way to a comprehensive eight-wicket victory over the <strong data-start=\"293\" data-end=\"305\">SA Colts<\/strong> in a T20 clash at the Mangaung Oval as the <strong data-start=\"352\" data-end=\"373\">Khaya Majola Week<\/strong> concluded in Bloemfontein on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"402\" data-end=\"634\">In 2024, the <strong data-start=\"415\" data-end=\"427\">SA Colts<\/strong> defeated <strong data-start=\"441\" data-end=\"455\">SA Schools<\/strong> for the first time since 2018. Both of those victories were achieved at Newlands, in Cape Town.<\/p>\n<p>However, the contest in Bloemfontein tilted very firmly in the favour of SA Schools.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"636\" data-end=\"919\">The fixture also included former <strong>Proteas<\/strong>&#8216; batsman <strong data-start=\"836\" data-end=\"854\">Stiaan van Zyl<\/strong>, who was one of the two umpires.<\/p>\n<p>The day, though, belonged to <strong data-start=\"951\" data-end=\"982\">Hilton College<\/strong>&#8216;s <strong data-start=\"951\" data-end=\"982\">Ben Hockly<\/strong> and <strong data-start=\"987\" data-end=\"1004\">Armaan Manack<\/strong>, of <strong data-start=\"1008\" data-end=\"1029\">St David&#8217;s Marist Inanda<\/strong>. They combined for an unbeaten 134-run partnership as SA Schools chased down a victory target of 149 in just 17.3 overs.<\/p>\n<p><strong data-start=\"1155\" data-end=\"1165\">Manack<\/strong>, who was named the <strong data-start=\"1181\" data-end=\"1204\">Player of the Match<\/strong>, top-scored with an unbeaten 68 from only 51 deliveries.\u00a0At the other end, <strong data-start=\"1281\" data-end=\"1291\">Hockly<\/strong> finished unbeaten on 63 from 41 balls. His innings included three towering sixes on the expansive Mangaung Oval.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1410\" data-end=\"1720\">Hockly will join the <strong data-start=\"1445\" data-end=\"1471\">University of Pretoria<\/strong> in 2026, as will the <strong data-start=\"1490\" data-end=\"1533\">Player of the<\/strong> <strong>Tournament<\/strong>,<strong data-start=\"1490\" data-end=\"1533\"> Reuben van Zyl<\/strong>. Although he missed out with the bat on Sunday, scoring only eight, <strong data-start=\"1582\" data-end=\"1593\">Van Zyl<\/strong>, a wicketkeeper\/batsman, nonetheless made a valuable contribution by being part of two run outs in the Colts&#8217; innings.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1722\" data-end=\"2095\"><strong data-start=\"1722\" data-end=\"1740\">Xavier Coetzee<\/strong>, who was named the <strong data-start=\"1748\" data-end=\"1771\">Batsman of the Week<\/strong>, was the standout performer for the <strong data-start=\"1808\" data-end=\"1820\">SA Colts<\/strong>. Continuing his outstanding form from the previous five days, he struck a brisk half-century, making exactly 50 from 34 balls, before becoming the first batsman to be run out.<\/p>\n<p>His exit occurred during a strong spell from <strong data-start=\"2053\" data-end=\"2094\">Rondebosch Boys&#8217; High<\/strong>&#8216;s <strong data-start=\"2053\" data-end=\"2094\">Daniel Bosman<\/strong>, who snared 3\/23 from his four overs of off spin.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2097\" data-end=\"2378\">He was well supported by <strong data-start=\"2236\" data-end=\"2252\">Taywin Adams<\/strong>, of <strong data-start=\"2256\" data-end=\"2275\">Klein Nederburg<\/strong>, who clamped down on the Colts, capturing 2\/13 in four.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2380\" data-end=\"2735\">The innings had earlier been steadied by a productive 50-run partnership between <strong data-start=\"2461\" data-end=\"2472\">Coetzee<\/strong> and <strong data-start=\"2477\" data-end=\"2501\">Westville Boys&#8217; High<\/strong> stalwart <strong data-start=\"2511\" data-end=\"2527\">Seth Simpson<\/strong>, who made 33, with his only two boundaries both going for six.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Glenwood<\/strong>&#8216;s <strong data-start=\"2542\" data-end=\"2560\">Bandile Mbatha<\/strong>, a star performer for <strong>SA u19<\/strong> against <strong>England<\/strong> at the start of 2025,\u00a0threatened with the ball for the Colts, claiming 1\/10 from two overs, including the key wicket of <strong data-start=\"2680\" data-end=\"2691\">Van Zyl<\/strong>, who was caught at long-on by <strong data-start=\"2714\" data-end=\"2734\">Kamogelo Matlala<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Summarised scorecard<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>SA Colts 148\/9\u00a0<\/strong>(Xavier Coetzee 50, Seth Simpson 33; Daniel Bosman 3\/23, Taywin Adams 2\/13);\u00a0<strong>SA Schools 151\/2\u00a0<\/strong>(Armaan Manack 68*, Ben Hockly 63*; Bandile Mbatha 1\/10).\u00a0<strong>SA Schools won by eight wickets.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The South African Schools side powered their way to a comprehensive eight-wicket victory over the SA Colts in a T20 clash at the Mangaung Oval as the Khaya Majola Week concluded in Bloemfontein on Sunday.
