Photo: Provided.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p data-start=\"204\" data-end=\"376\"><strong data-start=\"204\" data-end=\"228\">Ho\u00ebrskool Rustenburg<\/strong> underlined just how unpredictable the T20 format can be in the semi-final round of the <strong data-start=\"320\" data-end=\"358\">Switch Schools SA20 Central Region<\/strong> playoffs on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"204\" data-end=\"376\">Relive all the\u00a0<em>Switch Schools SA20\u00a0<\/em>action on\u00a0<strong>SuperSport Schools &#8211; (www.superpsportschools.com)\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"378\" data-end=\"699\"><strong><em data-start=\"382\" data-end=\"391\">Rusties<\/em><\/strong> pulled off a major upset on the <strong>Ibbies Oval<\/strong>, at North-West University, defeating the only unbeaten side in the competition, <strong data-start=\"513\" data-end=\"540\">Potchefstroom Gimnasium<\/strong>, by 31 runs.<\/p>\n<p>In Phase One of the competition, Rustenburg lost to <strong><em data-start=\"584\" data-end=\"593\">Gimmies<\/em><\/strong> in the North West final, so Saturday&#8217;s win represented redemption of the highest order for last year&#8217;s North West champions.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"701\" data-end=\"1109\">Rustenburg&#8217;s bowling attack proved decisive. <strong data-start=\"758\" data-end=\"779\">Thian Labuschagne<\/strong>, the leading wicket-taker countrywide in Phase Two of the tournament, added two more scalps to his tally, including that of the dangerous <strong data-start=\"898\" data-end=\"920\">Christivan Coetzer<\/strong> with the second ball of the innings.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"701\" data-end=\"1109\">His remarkable tournament figures now read 11 wickets for 87 runs from four matches, with an exceptional strike rate of 8.4 balls per wicket and an economy rate of just 5.6 runs per over in the four matches he has played since Friday morning.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1111\" data-end=\"1588\">While <strong data-start=\"1117\" data-end=\"1133\">Callie Fryer<\/strong> shares second place on the wicket-taking chart with eight dismissals, it was his contribution with the bat that made a greater impact in the semi-final showdown. He top-scored with a crucial 53 from only 42 balls, striking four fours and two sixes in the highest individual score for Ho\u00ebrskool Rustenburg in their 151\/3.<\/p>\n<p><strong data-start=\"1402\" data-end=\"1419\">Augie Behrens<\/strong> and <strong data-start=\"1424\" data-end=\"1439\">Hendri Kemp<\/strong>, meanwhile, supported Thian Labuschagne well and exerted further pressure by claiming a combined four wickets for 48 runs. Behrens was the most economical of the trio, nabbing 2\/19.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1590\" data-end=\"1858\"><strong data-start=\"1609\" data-end=\"1624\">Lukas Kotze<\/strong> (27) and <strong data-start=\"1634\" data-end=\"1650\">Henr\u00e9 Cronj\u00e9<\/strong> (21) briefly revived <em><strong>Gimmies<\/strong><\/em>&#8216; hopes of a successful chase, but a couple of run outs halted their momentum, and <strong data-start=\"1759\" data-end=\"1786\">Potchefstroom Gimnasium<\/strong> was restricted to 120 all out in 16.3 overs, well short of the victory target of 152.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1860\" data-end=\"2146\">In the other semi-final, on the <strong>NWU Main Oval<\/strong>, the Central Region&#8217;s defending champions, <strong data-start=\"1941\" data-end=\"1963\">St Andrew&#8217;s School<\/strong>, booked their place in Sunday&#8217;s final with minimal fuss. <strong><em data-start=\"2020\" data-end=\"2028\">Saints<\/em><\/strong> swept aside <strong data-start=\"2041\" data-end=\"2059\">Ho\u00ebrskool Trio<\/strong>, cantering to a convincing eight-wicket victory after dismissing the Kroonstad side for just 57.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2148\" data-end=\"2342\"><strong data-start=\"2148\" data-end=\"2165\">Nikhil Sukraj<\/strong>, who, like Callie Fryer,\u00a0 boasts eight wickets from four matches, led the attack with figures of 3\/19 and was ably supported by <strong data-start=\"2275\" data-end=\"2304\">Schalk van Rensburg<\/strong> (2\/11) and <strong data-start=\"2316\" data-end=\"2334\">Erhard Barends<\/strong> (2\/22).<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2344\" data-end=\"2590\" data-is-last-node=\"\" data-is-only-node=\"\">What made the Bloemfontein side&#8217;s bowling performance particularly impressive was their discipline: across the 12 overs they bowled, not a single extra was conceded &#8211; a reflection of a championship-quality attack and a well-drilled unit.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2344\" data-end=\"2590\" data-is-last-node=\"\" data-is-only-node=\"\">On Sunday, Rusties will take a second shot at Saints after they lost by a big margin of 95 runs to the Bloemfontein boys on the first day.
