{"id":8865,"date":"2019-06-14T08:40:10","date_gmt":"2019-06-14T08:40:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/rugby.supersportschools.com\/koen-mindset-and-attitude-vital-for-junior-boks\/"},"modified":"2019-06-14T08:40:10","modified_gmt":"2019-06-14T08:40:10","slug":"koen-mindset-and-attitude-vital-for-junior-boks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/test.ssschoolsplus.co.za\/?p=8865","title":{"rendered":"Koen: Mindset and attitude vital for Junior Boks"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" alignleft size-full wp-image-7598\" style=\"margin: 0px 10px 5px 0px; float: left;\" src=\"https:\/\/rugby.supersportschools.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/JuniorSpringboks.jpg\" alt=\"JuniorSpringboks\" width=\"220\" height=\"220\" srcset=\"https:\/\/test.ssschoolsplus.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/JuniorSpringboks.jpg 768w, https:\/\/test.ssschoolsplus.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/JuniorSpringboks-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/test.ssschoolsplus.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/JuniorSpringboks-150x150.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 220px) 100vw, 220px\" \/>SA Rugby High Performance manager and Junior Springbok assistant coach, Louis Koen, said the SAU20\u2019s showed against New Zealand that if they are in the right frame of mind they can pitch up for big games, and he was confident they would ready for the World Rugby U20 Championship semi-final.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The Junior Springboks will face France in the semi-final on Monday, 17 June, at the Racecourse Stadium in Rosario, with hosts, Argentina, meeting Australia in the other semi-final.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The SAU20\u2019s finished the pool stages of the competition as the only unbeaten team after defeating Scotland, Georgia and New Zealand, which saw them being drawn against France, who booked their place in the semi-final on points\u2019 difference.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Commenting on the team\u2019s 25-17 victory against New Zealand, Koen said: \u201cWe are very pleased with the attitude the players showed.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u201cWe had a specific plan going into the game and they executed it perfectly. There was also great leadership from our captain and leadership group.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u201cI thought the guys really stepped up and they showed that if they are in the right frame of mind they can produce a great game of rugby. So we are very proud of them. We are blessed with some great potential among this group of players.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Koen, however, said there were areas they had to improve on as the final stages approach.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u201cThere are definitely things we need to improve on if we want to be in the mix going forward,\u201d said the coach.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u201cOur game management still needs an improvement, and there are too many times that we want to play when we are under pressure. Our playmakers can also make small improvements in their decision-making and communication.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u201cOver and above that I felt that we had numerous opportunities to counter-attack from the opposition\u2019s mistakes, and we didn\u2019t always utilise those opportunities, so there are definitely still areas to work on going into the semi-final. \u201cWe have three days to prepare and we will do everything in our power to be as well prepared as possible. That said, the players showed that they have the right mind-set and that they can pitch up for important games, and we believe they will be ready for the semi-final.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">With only two matches left in the competition, Koen was pleased with the progress the team had made since the showpiece kicked off.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u201cThere has been an improvement in every game we played and that is a big positive for us going into the semi-final,\u201d said Koen. \u201cAgainst Scotland we did well to create opportunities, although we didn\u2019t finish them off, and against Georgia we made a lot of errors in the first half and then showed good maturity to come back in the second half, and we scored some fantastic tries.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u201cAgainst New Zealand it was all about attitude and mind-set, so we are growing as a team in every game, and if we can continue to do that, we will give ourselves a good chance to be successful.\u201d &nbsp;&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><em><strong><span style=\"font-size: 11pt; line-height: 105%; font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\">Issued by SA Rugby Communications<\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">[powr-comments id=&#8221;518951a5_1560501538116&#8243;]<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>SA Rugby High Performance manager and Junior Springbok assistant coach, Louis Koen, said the SAU20\u2019s showed against New Zealand that if they are in the right frame of mind they can pitch up for big games, and he was confident they would ready for the World Rugby U20 Championship semi-final.
