{"id":90538,"date":"2026-02-16T07:38:06","date_gmt":"2026-02-16T05:38:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/?p=90538"},"modified":"2026-02-16T07:38:06","modified_gmt":"2026-02-16T05:38:06","slug":"hts-middelburg-seals-back-to-back-wins-to-close-out-finsbury-league-run","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/test.ssschoolsplus.co.za\/?p=90538","title":{"rendered":"HTS Middelburg seals back-to-back wins to close out Finsbury League run"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-62880\" src=\"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/iStock-846032496-400x267.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"267\" \/>HTS Middelburg<\/strong> capped off their 2026 <strong>Finsbury League<\/strong> campaign with a second consecutive D Section victory on home soil in Middelburg on Saturday.<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Wet weather had the final say in two of the three scheduled fixtures, with the match between <strong>Ho\u00ebrskool Dr Malan<\/strong> and <strong>Merensky Landbou Akademie<\/strong>\u00a0being abandoned without a ball being bowled.<\/p>\n<p>Before the weekend&#8217;s games were played, though, <em><strong>Dokkies<\/strong><\/em> had already booked a place in the promotion\/relegation playoff on 21 February.<\/p>\n<p>In a low-scoring encounter in Middelburg, HTS produced a well\u2011rounded performance to overcome <strong>Ho\u00ebrskool Ben Vorster<\/strong> by four wickets.<\/p>\n<p>The hosts bowled first after the <em><strong>Black Caps<\/strong> <\/em>won the toss and elected to bat.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Hugo Bierman<\/strong> responded well to the challenge, leading the home side&#8217;s attack, with an excellent opening spell helping him to 3\/19 from 6.2 overs, while the reliable <strong>Brussow de Wet <\/strong>sent down seven overs and knocked over 3\/22.<\/p>\n<p>Only <strong>Dirk Nortman<\/strong> and <strong>Ruben Pohl<\/strong> bettered 20 runs for <strong>Ben Vorster<\/strong>.\u00a0Nortman top\u2011scored with 23, while Pohl contributed 21 as the visitors posted a modest 127 all out.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Henco Britz<\/strong> led the home side&#8217;s reply with a well\u2011constructed 29 at the top of the order. <strong>Jandr\u00e9 de Clerq<\/strong> added 25, and <strong>Armand Kotze<\/strong> tallied 24, to see HTS Middelburg to a four-wicket win.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sontag Ramatsoma<\/strong> almost turned the match on its head, snaring 3\/6 in only three overs to sow some seeds of doubt in the hosts&#8217; run chase, but, by then, the job had almost been completed.<\/p>\n<p>In Heidelberg, <strong>Michael Kinnear\u2019s<\/strong> five\u2011wicket haul, supported by the all\u2011round efforts of <strong>Ethan Walker<\/strong> and the ever\u2011impressive <strong>Jeandr\u00e9 Greyling<\/strong>, saw <strong>Ho\u00ebrskool Wesvalia<\/strong> home with a nail\u2011biting two\u2011wicket victory over <strong>Heidelberg Volkskool<\/strong>. Bowling first, Kinnear ensured that the <em><strong>Volkies<\/strong><\/em> could muster only 148 all out.<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Opening the bowling, he inflicted the bulk of the damage, claiming five wickets while conceding a modest 39 runs in the nine overs he delivered. Walker (2 for 16) and Greyling (2 for 32) backed him up with two wickets each, conceding a combined 60 runs in their spells.<\/p>\n<p>They then followed up with match\u2011winning contributions with the bat. Walker top\u2011scored with 26, while Greyling\u2019s 22 proved pivotal in the narrow victory, the visitors reaching their target on the first ball of the 35th over. <strong>Kehan Baird<\/strong> and <strong>Jaco Botha<\/strong> were the home side\u2019s standout all\u2011round performers.<\/p>\n<p>Baird added a valuable 30 with the bat and followed it up with figures of 2 for 22, while Botha contributed 20 runs before returning 2 for 32 with the ball. The <em><strong>Wessies<\/strong><\/em> were ultimately undeterred by the efforts of <strong>Vaughn Steynvaart<\/strong>, who recorded the highest individual score of the match with 31.
