\"NewsGSACS\"\u201cYou\u2019re only as good as your last game\u201d someone once said. Wynberg Boy\u2019s High will head off into summer with a good feeling having scored four converted tries in comfortably overcoming arch-rivals The South African College High School (SACS) by twenty-eight points to nil (Halftime 21-0).<\/span><\/p>\n

The traditional season ending derby was played in lovely warm conditions on the magnificent Hawthornden Field in Wynberg. A large crowd enjoyed an entertaining match that allowed the hosts to avenge their first round defeat.<\/span><\/p>\n

SACS started well and played all the rugby in the first ten minutes. They created three good chances but came away with nothing. Wynberg\u2019s first passage of positive attacking rugby saw them come away with points. Scrumhalf Matthew Damonze spotting an unmarked area next to a ruck and darting through from twenty metres out to score. Wynberg flyhalf Devon Pretorius converted as he did all four tries.<\/span><\/p>\n

The match ebbed and flowed from then on until two costly errors by SACS basically gifted the match to Wynberg. On 28 minutes SACS bungled a midfield scrum move on the halfway line and the ball was scooped up by Wynberg. They broke clear and scored a lovely try through flank Reece Brice that included three deft offloads.<\/span><\/p>\n

On thirty-one minutes SACS missed a penalty goal before two minutes later committing rugby suicide by dropping another ball which was swept up by Wynberg wing Lezaine Davis who raced clear to score.<\/span><\/p>\n

Four minutes into the second half SACS made it a doubled the dose of pain for their fans by dropping another pass, which led to exactly the same outcome as Davis dotted for his second, once again under the poles.<\/span><\/p>\n

For the final half hour SACS tried to fight their way back into the match but it wasn\u2019t to be as Wynberg defended expertly and SACS continued to make too many basic errors.<\/span><\/p>\n

After testing seasons for both teams it was a nice ending for Wynberg, who like SACS, have given their all and played some attractive rugby this season. Unfortunately for both schools the Western Province league is uncompromising.<\/span><\/p>\n
