Photo:<strong> Toni Butterworth<\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Sixteen of the best water polo-playing boys&#8217; schools in South Africa will go head-to-head this weekend for the<strong> KES Water Polo Tournament<\/strong> title in Johannesburg.<\/p>\n<p>The prestigious annual tournament, hosted by <strong>King Edward VII<\/strong> <strong>(KES)<\/strong> in Houghton, runs from 27 February to 1 March, and all the action will be <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/live.supersportschools.com\/\">LIVE on SuperSport Schools<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>In 2025, new champions were crowned after <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/bishops-downs-hilton-to-win-first-ever-kes-water-polo-tournament-title\/\">Bishops edged out Hilton College in a penalty shootout<\/a><\/strong> to win the trophy for the first time in the school\u2019s history.<\/p>\n<p>The boys from Cape Town will return to the tournament oozing with confidence after recently claiming their third<strong> SACS Nite Series<\/strong> title in a row.<\/p>\n<p>Led by <strong>Jabulani Sibiya<\/strong>, they also won the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/bishops-outmaneuvers-rondebosch-to-win-sac-shield-in-style\/\">SAC Shield in Makhanda<\/a> <\/strong>earlier this year, and they are undeniably one of the title favourites.<\/p>\n<p>Bishops are in Pool A and will face <strong>Clifton College<\/strong>\u00a0and the Gauteng duo of <strong>St David&#8217;s Marist Inanda<\/strong> and <strong>Jeppe High School for Boys<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Clifton is the only side that&#8217;s managed to topple Bishops in a tournament this year. The Durban school produced an outstanding performance to claim an <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/heavy-hitters-lead-the-way-as-sac-shield-reaches-boiling-point\/\">11-7 win during the SAC Shield<\/a><\/strong>, so they&#8217;ll back themselves at KES.<\/p>\n<p>St David&#8217;s won&#8217;t be pushovers either.\u00a0Coach <strong>Dean Whyte<\/strong>&#8216;s side has played some entertaining water polo of late, and they retained the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/character-and-grit-key-as-st-davids-claims-back-to-back-vides-titles\/\">Vides Water Polo Tournament<\/a> <\/strong>title in East London a fortnight ago.<\/p>\n<p>They did, however, go down to <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/st-johns-nips-st-davids-to-win-kes-night-league-title\/\">St John&#8217;s College 8-9 in the final of the KES Night League<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_91307\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-91307\" style=\"width: 400px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-91307\" src=\"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/St-Andrews-Shield-Day-3-9-1-400x267.jpg\" alt=\"St John's College @SAC Shield\" width=\"400\" height=\"267\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-91307\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">St John&#8217;s College will be hoping for a title run at the KES Water Polo Tournament. Photo: Toni Butterworth<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Pool B is arguably the group of death and should deliver cracking matchups from the outset.\u00a0It features <strong>Rondebosch Boys&#8217; High<\/strong>, <strong>St John&#8217;s College<\/strong>, Hilton College, and <strong>Pretoria Boys High<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;<em><strong>Bosch<\/strong> <\/em>and St John\u2019s will be the two favoured to progress, but a resilient Hilton side will try to pull off a surprise.<\/p>\n<p>The hosts, KES, will battle <strong>South African College High School<\/strong> (SACS), <strong>Selborne College<\/strong>, and <strong>Westville Boys&#8217; High<\/strong> in Pool C.<\/p>\n<p>After falling in the semi-finals of the SAC Shield in January, SACS has been steadily improving. They enjoyed a good run in their Nite Series, and they will be eager to ride that momentum to bigger and better things at KES.<\/p>\n<p>Pool D also features a juicy line-up, with <strong>St Stithians College<\/strong>,<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/a-synopsis-of-the-kearsney-night-series-at-the-halfway-point\/\"> Kearsney College<\/a><\/strong>, <strong>St Andrew&#8217;s College<\/strong>, and <strong>Paul Roos<\/strong> going toe-to-toe.<\/p>\n<p>There will be very little room for error in the group, with all the teams posing threats. Kearsney hasn&#8217;t played the tournaments that some of the other sides have played, but they have been working very hard to prepare for the event.
