Photo: <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/TeamphotoSA\">TeamPhotoSA<\/a><\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Entertaining water polo, resulting in bucket loads of goals, and a handful of surprise results were on the menu on Friday, the opening day of the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/the-very-best-chase-silverware-at-the-kes-water-polo-tournament\/\">KES Water Polo Tournament<\/a><\/strong> in Johannesburg.<\/p>\n<p>The prestigious tournament runs until Sunday, and all <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/supersportschools.com\/\">the action is LIVE on SuperSport Schools<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Ahead of the event, there was a lot of talk about title contenders, favourites, and underdogs. <strong>St David&#8217;s Marist Inanda<\/strong>, <a href=\"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/character-and-grit-key-as-st-davids-claims-back-to-back-vides-titles\/\"><strong>the back-to-back Vides&#8217; champions<\/strong><\/a>,\u00a0fitted the contenders&#8217; category, and they kicked off proceedings with a Pool A clash against <strong>Jeppe High School for Boys<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>It was far from a walk in the park for coach <strong>Dean Whyte&#8217;<\/strong>s boys, and they were made to work hard for their 9-5 win.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Cooper Haworth<\/strong> netted a hat-trick for St David&#8217;s before<strong> David Latilla-Campbell<\/strong> chipped in with a brace. <strong>Dylan Gander<\/strong> was also on the scoresheet alongside <strong>Danilo Giuricich<\/strong>, <strong>Connor McJannet<\/strong>, and <strong>Matthew Peacock<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Aiden Khoury<\/strong> was a shining light for Jeppe, with his hat-trick helping the Kensington side cut the deficit.<\/p>\n<p>In their second matches of the day, St David&#8217;s beat<strong> Clifton College<\/strong> 9-5, while Jeppe suffered a 4-15 loss to <strong>Bishops<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Bishops, one of the favourites, was impressive. They trounced Clifton, the only team to beat them thus far in 2026, rolling to a 10-4 victory.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Waterpolo - Westville Boys&amp;apos; High vs King Edward VII - KES Waterpolo Tournament - 27 February 2026\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/ITD_E6kujNE?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><strong>Matt Fenn<\/strong> netted four times in that clash, while <strong>Tim Young<\/strong> struck twice. <strong>Harry Ford<\/strong>, <strong>Jack Grout<\/strong>, <strong>Christo le Roux<\/strong>, and <strong>James Malan<\/strong> netted, too.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Rondebosch Boys&#8217; High<\/strong> dominated Pool B, claiming two big wins.\u00a0Coach <strong>Jared Wingate-Pearse<\/strong>&#8216;s boys started their campaign by thumping<strong> Pretoria Boys High<\/strong> <strong>(PBHS)<\/strong> 17-1 before outplaying<strong> Hilton College<\/strong> 11-6 later in the day.<\/p>\n<p>Against Hilton, playing on his birthday, <strong>Noah Reiback<\/strong> bagged his umpteenth hat-trick for the &#8216;<strong><em>Bosch <\/em><\/strong>first team, while his counterparts, <strong>Nathan Corlett<\/strong> and<strong> Kieran Bennewith<\/strong>, chipped in with two goals each.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Waterpolo - Rondebosch vs Hilton College - KES Waterpolo Tournament - 27 February 2026\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/rMPHJFOA5eM?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><strong>St John&#8217;s College<\/strong> ended the opening day with a win and a loss. They went down 5-6 to Hilton College in their opener, but ran out 10-6 winners over Pretoria Boys High in their second outing.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Chris Chapman<\/strong> and<strong> Muhammad Bodiat<\/strong> fired in three goals each in the St John&#8217;s win, while <strong>Oliver Oberholzer<\/strong> stood out for PBHS.<\/p>\n<p>There were some interesting results in Pool C. Based on day one&#8217;s results, it appears the group is going to be more tightly contested than many predicted.<strong>SACS<\/strong> was stretched and had to dig deep, but they won both of their games, scraping past <strong>Selborne<\/strong> 9-8 before beating <strong>KES<\/strong> 11-8.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ben Bigara<\/strong> was in top form against KES, scoring a whopping five goals, while <strong>Finn Lecuona<\/strong> netted twice.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Benjamin Vine<\/strong> and <strong>Christopher Davidson<\/strong> led the KES challenge, but their efforts weren&#8217;t enough to topple SACS.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_91590\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-91590\" style=\"width: 400px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-91590\" src=\"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/WhatsApp-Image-2026-02-27-at-9.42.18-PM-b-400x266.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"266\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-91590\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo: TeamPhotoSA<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Selborne ended the day in second place after beating <strong>Westville Boys&#8217; High<\/strong> in a penalty shootout.<\/p>\n<p>The game ended tied at 4-4, but the boys from East London took the win 3-1 from five metres out.
