\"SAu19Championship\"Western Province’s u19-side made it clear during their opening match of the SA Rugby u19 Championship<\/strong> that they will be a force to be reckoned with. They brushed Boland aside by 64-10 at Paarl Gimnasium’s main field.<\/p>\n

The victors’ hooker, Jason Alexander<\/strong>, completed a first-half hat-trick of tries after crossing the try-line for the first time in the sixth minute of the clash. His third try came in the 15th minute of the encounter.<\/p>\n

In total Western Province managed to cross the tryline ten times in the match. They will face Eastern Province on Thursday in their second encounter of the competition that follows a new format this season.<\/p>\n

The defending u19 champions, the Sharks, didn’t experience too much trouble in defeating Eastern Province by 43-23 in their encounter on the opening day. Flanker Lunga Ncube<\/strong> completing a brace of tries.<\/p>\n

Eastern Province put on a brave effort in the first half allowing the Sharks a narrow 17-16 lead at the break. EP’s flyhalf, Bryce Collins<\/strong>, packed his kicking boots and converted both his side’s tries and also slotted three penalties.<\/p>\n

The Sharks will take on Boland in their second encounter of the SA Rugby u19 Championship on Thursday.<\/p>\n

Sharks 43 (17) –<\/strong> Tries: Lunga Ncube (2), Cullen van der Merwe, Dylan Pretorius, Jean Roux, Rynhardt Jonker, Asanda Kunene. Conversions: Pretorius (2), Darren Hendricks, Charl Janson. Eastern Province 23 (16) –<\/strong> Tries: Lennox Holster, Cole Kirkwood. Conversions: Bryce Collins (2). Penalties: Collins (3).<\/p>\n
