Wynberg Boys’ High vs Rondebosch Boys’ High<\/strong><\/p>\n

Wynberg Boys’ High<\/strong> was superb, recording a 27-17 victory at home over high-flying Rondebosch Boys’ High<\/strong> on Saturday.<\/p>\n

There was almost nothing in it at halftime, with the hosts leading 8-7. However, Wynberg had an ace up their sleeve – a very effective rolling maul.<\/p>\n

Twice, within 15 minutes of the break, they mauled their way over for tries from lineouts inside the ‘Bosch<\/strong> <\/em>22.<\/p>\n

Thrice hooker Naeem Mohammed<\/strong> finished off Wynberg’s relentless rolling mauls. Ridah Johnson<\/strong>, who came off the bench to replace Mohammed in the middle of the front row, also scored via the same route.<\/p>\n

The visitors were still in the match as it headed into the last quarter, with some brilliant handling bringing them tries from blindside flank Ben Gray<\/strong> and fullback Joshua Kirby<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

When the final whistle sounded, though, it was Wynberg who had landed the first blow in the battle for supremacy in the southern suburbs. Bishops<\/strong> and SACS<\/strong> will have been put on notice. If they are to stop Wynberg, they’ll need to find a way to counter the rolling maul.<\/p>\n

Ho\u00ebrskool Durbanville vs SACS<\/strong><\/p>\n

Fullback Wihan Roux<\/strong> was the hero for Ho\u00ebrskool Durbanville<\/strong> in their tight 20-18 victory over SACS<\/strong> on Saturday.<\/p>\n

Much to the delight of the home crowd, Durbies’\u00a0 <\/strong><\/em>burly blindside flank Zay-Winn Januarie <\/strong>crossed for a try. After that, Roux slotted five penalties to give the hosts a slight edge over the visitors from Newlands.<\/p>\n

SACS played some entertaining rugby and breached the Durbanville defence three times, led by outside centre James Sale<\/strong>, who glided past defenders on two occasions for a brace.<\/p>\n

Durbies showed grit, though, to stay in touch with SACS, and to ultimately score one of the narrowest wins of the weekend.<\/p>\n

Ho\u00ebrskool Melkbosstrand vs DF Akademie<\/strong><\/p>\n

The weekend’s trend of high-scoring fullbacks continued when Craig Solomons<\/strong> tallied 18 points through a try, two conversions, and three penalties in Ho\u00ebrskool Melkbosstrand<\/strong>‘s 26-10 triumph over DF Akademie<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

That result looks even more impressive for Melkies<\/strong> <\/em>if one considers the fact that they had only played one game so far this season, while the visitors had played five.<\/p>\n

While DF Akademie will feel frustrated that they were unable to avenge a 15-20 loss last year, they’ll have an opportunity to claim their third win of the season when they host Ho\u00ebrskool Tygerberg<\/strong> next weekend.<\/p>\n

Melkbosstrand should feel justifiably proud about their victory, but they next face a massive challenge on the coming weekend when they’ll try to halt the giant-killing Jade Brigade<\/strong><\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n
