Photo: <strong>Carin Havinga<\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>A total of 35 goals were scored across seven matches in the Western Cape this past weekend.<\/p>\n<p>While several sides &#8211; including\u00a0 <strong>Bishops<\/strong> and <strong>Paul Roos<\/strong> Gimnasium &#8211;\u00a0had byes, the 14 teams in action produced entertaining hockey.<\/p>\n<p>The action kicked off on Friday night with <strong>Rondebosch Boys&#8217; High<\/strong> travelling to the<strong><em> Astro of Dreams<\/em><\/strong> to face their southern suburbs&#8217; rivals, <strong>Wynberg Boys&#8217; High<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;<em><strong>Bosch<\/strong> <\/em>went into the clash after returning from The Netherlands, where they participated in the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/rondebosch-to-make-historic-ehco-tournament-debut-in-holland\/\">European Hockey Club Organisation (EHCO) Trophy Tournament<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>After a third-place finish, competing against leading clubs, they were confident, and it showed in their game.<\/p>\n<p>They claimed a comfortable 4-1 victory, courtesy of goals by <strong>Daniel Fisher<\/strong>, <strong>Martin Barnard<\/strong>, <strong>Tate de Villiers<\/strong>, and <strong>Ben Hartman<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>It was a performance that impressed head coach<strong> Waseem Domingo<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I felt the boys did well despite returning from The Netherlands on Wednesday,&#8221; he told <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/hockey\/\">SuperSport Schools Plus<\/a><\/strong>.\u00a0&#8220;They were dominant in possession, and I feel that the main reason for winning was down to simple, free-flowing hockey.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Our goal is to always put the team first, and I think that in itself prioritises our overall focus as opposed to the need for individual flash.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It was a good start to the season, and Wynberg are formidable opponents, so a win was fantastic.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Rondebosch next faces <strong>Fairmont High <\/strong>in a league clash on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>Another side that impressed was <strong>Parel Vallei<\/strong> (PV), who beat <strong>Paarl Boys&#8217; High<\/strong> 4-1.<\/p>\n<p>Coach <strong>Michael van Rensburg<\/strong>&#8216;s troops showed glimpses of their potential at the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ssschoolsplus.co.za\/wins-all-the-way-for-durban-high-school-at-coastal-cup\/\">Belgotex Sport Coastal Cup<\/a> <\/strong>last month. It didn&#8217;t all go their way against <strong><em>Boishaai<\/em><\/strong>, though, but they got the job done.<\/p>\n<p>It was the usual suspects &#8211;<strong>\u00a0Luka Meets<\/strong>, <strong>Stephan Malan<\/strong>, <strong>Nicolas Havinga<\/strong>, and <strong>Luca Jordaan &#8211;<\/strong> who found the back of the net.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We were happy to come away with the win, but not happy with our performance,&#8221; Van Rensburg said. &#8220;Paarl Boys&#8217; did well to disrupt our plans, and credit must go to them.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Our circle entries to outcomes are not where we would like them to be.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>PV will next face <strong>DF Akademie<\/strong>\u00a0before heading to Gqeberha for the <strong>Hibbert Shield<\/strong> later this month.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;There are a couple of details at which we want to get better going into the next couple of weeks, especially with the Hibbert Shield looming,&#8221; Van Rensburg said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We need to improve our counter-defence and deep defensive disciplines and be better in terms of our circle entry outcomes. These specifics will form a core part of our preparation in the coming weeks.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>In other matches, <strong>South African College High School<\/strong> <strong>(SACS)<\/strong> picked up a 6-0 win against <strong>Durbanville<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Captain <strong>Litha Kraai<\/strong> scored a brace, as did <strong>Troy Loots<\/strong>. <strong>Mohlodi Maseko<\/strong> and<strong> Jake Hufkie<\/strong> completed the drubbing.<\/p>\n<p>Fairmont High edged out the <strong>Langa Hockey Club<\/strong> 2-1, thanks to strikes by <strong>Tyler Morilly<\/strong> and <strong>Ryan Groenewald<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, DF Akademie and <strong>Curro Durbanville<\/strong> played to a 3-3 draw.<\/p>\n<p>On Saturday, SACS returned to the <strong>Brewery AstroTurf<\/strong> for a high-profile meeting with <strong>Grey High<\/strong> and did just enough to sneak a 3-1 win late in the game.<\/p>\n<p>Grey bounced back in style on Sunday and defeated <strong>Reddam House Constantia<\/strong> 6-0 to end their Cape Town sojourn on a high note.<\/p>\n<p><strong>RESULTS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>DF Akademie 3-3 Curro Durbanville<br \/>\nRondebosch 4-1 Wynberg<br \/>\nFairmont 2-1 Langa<br \/>\nSACS 3-1 Grey High<br \/>\nSACS 6-0 Durbanville<br \/>\nParel Vallei 4-1 Paarl Boys High<br \/>\nGrey High 6-0 Reddam House Constantia<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A total of 35 goals were scored across seven matches in the Western Cape this past weekend.
